The Expansion Draft

so sounds like islanders and jets are going to cough up first round picks to protect a bunch of 3rd line talent.

dumb.

if you're a contender, i get it. bubble teams, though? so foolish.

here's hoping that the isles go out and sign oshie and shattenkirk...

Anyone else get the feeling they're going to unload most of the good talent they picked?

definitely the smart play. outside of dumba nobody available has the potential to be a legit long term piece

add a few solid hard working vets. add a few guys who can score goals to peddle at the deadline. load up on blueliners.

The Jets giving up a 1st seems like the most ridiculous move. To protect Enstrom? Hutchinson? WTF?

At least the Isles protected Nelson and Strome (not worth a 1st but better than Enstrom at this point) and shed a less than desirable contract in Grabovski... even if it's only a year.

They're following the same strategy as the Leafs the past couple of years---loading up on useful pending UFA's they can farm out for futures.

Out of their picks so far, they've got:

9 pending UFA's
3 players 2 years away from UFA
2 players signed for 3 years
1 player signed for 3+ years

That'll push a bunch of more picks into their system over the next couple of years, and nothing to muddy up their cap picture long-term.

Fleury + Clarkson are cap floor fodder. Surprised Fleury only netted a 2nd rounder 4 drafts from now.
