The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

If you listen the numbers back up the eye test. They were the fastest team in the league at getting shots after entering the zone, and this year they are bottom 3.

they are playing slow.

also says they are near the bottom in top speed, however they measure that.

Not sure if the playing slow is due to the players or coach, but Babs death knell was making some system changes that made no sense.

they are playing slow.

Yeah, this was going to be my rebuttal to that. We're definitely playing slow this year.

61 corsi events for down to 58, 33 shots down to 30.

But seriously, people do this every fucking time we go through a shooting slump. 6.01%, 31st in the league (5v5). Everyone who thinks that's going to hold for the year, raise your hand.

We need to shoot the puck more and not hold hold hold to try to pass the puck into the 4 times a night. But our true shooting talent is somewhere in the 9-10% (5v5).

Just a return to our usual 5v5 SH% would be an extra 9-10 goals scored, which would have us back in the top 10 for 5v5 G/60. Which still isn't good enough (I'm not trying to suggest that we're playing well by our standards and are just unlucky), but is still pretty fucking good by most team's standards.

It doesn't need to hold up for the year. another 15 games of this shit will probably scuttle any top seed plans. And when we go up against the Bruins again with no home ice we'll be regretting all these easy points we're giving away.

Pretty crazy considering how many of our losses have been close. Maybe people would be breathing a little more right now.

Keefe will go loooooooooong before Marner goes, and Marner would only go loooooooong after Keefe goes if things spiral downwards into hell.

No one has suggested that they should or will move Marner other than some dude named Stats Mundin. Just want to make that clear.

Not sure where to start this conversation but might be it's own thread.

NHL teams valuation has grown far faster than the cap, will the next contract be the time the players demand more of the pie. HRR doesn't appear to be a good indicator or return for owners.

The whole purpose of the principle of "cost certainty" was to skyrocket franchise values.

Yep and it shouldn't be long until the workers/talent demand a fair piece of the puzzle.

If they had been well-advised in the first place and accepted the principle of cost certainty they could have negotiated a much better deal for themselves.

it was gross mismanagement. costs were way too high and half the teams in the league were losing money. Annual profitability isn't nearly as important if you have hard linkage between revenues and expenses, though, so it always made sense for the owners to lose a season where they were losing money anyways in order to get it.

It's true though that at this point the owners would have much less incentive to miss a season.

I'm addressing some of the posters here who are entertaining it as a possibility, or that just want him gone.
