The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

Not sure where to start this conversation but might be it's own thread.

NHL teams valuation has grown far faster than the cap, will the next contract be the time the players demand more of the pie. HRR doesn't appear to be a good indicator or return for owners.

Hot damn, getting ousted in the first round is lucrative.

No wonder they never want to advance.

NHL players should be pissed. they are so underpaid. Meanwhile, if a superstar taking double digits fans go nuts.

We’ll see what happens over the next few months but lots of signs pointing at the coach.

Maybe I’m missing something but we’re dead last in goals above expected. Isn’t it fair to say that’s going to normalize a bit? Matthews and Bunting are 5th and 7th in goals below expected. Maybe we should use some common sense here.

yes, that part is not concerning. The part where they are still racking up the same xG/60 but that rank 12th in the league instead of 1st that is concerning.

the PDO is an issue so far, but the underlying numbers in comparison to the league arent looking elite, which wasn’t the case during the slow start last year,

they’ll get better results when the SH% reverts to the mean. But if that is all that changes they still aren’t performing as well as they did last year. They need to play better than they have not just score more.

And when you factor in that the amount of opportunities they ate actually producing this year is the same but still middling in the league then it starts to raise questions of whether Keefe just isn’t adapting fast enough.

Not to mention they've had one of the easiest schedules in the NHL and they've been average at best. I get not being alarmed because they're basically missing a first line and this is bound to change at one point or another (the line has been both somewhat unlucky and absolute garbage considering what they're capable of), but it has been a shit start by the Leafs, full stop.

They've played like ass. But thinking that the stats are actually describing a sudden drop in team quality is dumb.

I fucking hate xGAR and I'm highly skeptical of any stat that has JT this low considering how fucking good he has been... But here it is for fun

At the very least, the bottom 4 on the list match my eye test!

Another alternative is that Keefe has adapted but in a way that hasn’t helped yet.

atill early though. We’ll see how it plays out.

just pointing out that there are some red flags this time around.

I think it's a decent sign that their offence has been just about the same as last year despite Marner and Matthews looking like Nick Ritchie and Mien Kampf.

I’m still thinking that 10 games might still be too early to figure everyone else now has passed us and we need more of a sample size. I wonder if offense is not always up this early in the season before teams settle in/get organized.

Yeah, the concern as usual comes back to the playoffs, not that they’re not going to manage to turn things around eventually and have a good enough regular season.

With all their talk after each successive playoff defeat of what a great learning experience it’s been for them, you’d like to see some sign that they’ve…y’know, learned something.

That they’re now a seasoned group of professionals that’s learned to fight through adversity and a well-oiled machine that’s ready to go deep in the playoffs and prove their critics wrong.

Instead, they’ve gifted us with this wet fart of a start to the season, where the same impotent frustration, thousand-yard stares and pouty lack of determination we see from them when things don’t go their way in the playoffs is on full display.

Yeah as much as I like to bash the media for being horny over this start, at a certain point the Leafs have to stop giving the media ammo. This is a gimme for them.

Mega talented team in major market that hasn't been out of the first round in 18 years lose to the worst teams in the league on a consistent basis in the first 10 games of the season while playing like absolute garbage. I mean come on. Too easy.

I think offense is always up early in the year, but that doesn't mean the Leafs offense won't just go down with the rest of the league.

As I've said, we have to see what happens. I agree its early.

There are just some red flags showing, that haven't shown under Keefe to this point. The underlying numbers were always very good and improving and now they are middling. Its been more than luck.

We don't know what the cause is yet though. Its pure speculation. If its just the players playing like shit that is any east fix that will work itself out shortly. Hopefully thats it. Can't rule that out.

A lot of new faces to the system and losing your second pairing out of ths gate didnt help. I prefer to see more runway for a few new faces

The replacements have been ok but healthy Timmy and Muzz likely boost numbers

The acronyms shouldn't be as bad as they have been. On paper they should be net zero when they are on the ice but for some reason it not clicking for them. Is it Keefes system or just shit luck?
