The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

- Willy is on pace for 31/77, don't know how much more we can expect there. Willy might have another gear though, yeah. But that's pretty close to career bests.
- Cap is fine, a bit ahead on goals, but overall about where we hope/expect
- Auston's a few goals off of a normal expectations (60 goals should not be expectation...fucking sweet when it happens, but that's legendary. Even Ovy didn't put up legendary goal scoring numbers every year of his prime. If we need Auston to score 60+ or else the offence is junk, the problem isn't Auston. 45+ though, yeah and he's a few goals off of that overall)
- Mitch is about .1ppg off of peak Mitch production. Last year was a bit of a goal scoring aberration for Mitch I think. 1.2ppg and ~30 goals is pretty much peak Mitch imo.
- Kampf has been great, 4th line overall has been really good since the original iteration of it was broken up (and Malgin was re inserted)
- Jarnkrok has been meh offensively (25 point pace), a lot more like last year's offensive Jarnkrok than "prime" (20/40) offensive Jarnkrok. I question whether we needed another Kerfoot.
- Kerfoot can't shoot the puck, and yeah, I don't want one of these, nevermind 2 on the roster. Puts way too much pressure on the top of the lineup to have to score goals.
- Bunting just flat out needs to be better
- Robbie is hit and miss so far, which is to be expected from a kid. Put some nice shifts together last night, had some fumblefuckery at times too though. Call me after 20 games.
- Engvall is on pace for 16 points....

the leafs have 3 guys on pace to crack 20 goals, and until 3 games ago had only 1 goal from the blueline.

depth scoring has been a big, big problem.

we've seen some signs of life over the past couple of games with engvall and aston-reese scoring, and malgin creating. the big disappiontments so far in my book are bunting and kerfoot. they have both been staples in the top six and gotten pp time, and have combined for 3 goals (one EN).

At least Kerf has been visible, just can’t get anything on the board. Bunting has been a nonentity, taking a couple of energetic shifts but otherwise doing nothing other than trying to be sneaky dirty and getting caught and penalized each time.

Like I said earlier, these two are fucking themselves on their next contracts. And us in the meantime.

Kerfoot is noticeable, but its largely because he's the king of empty possession. He's great at moving the puck from our blueline to theirs, but creates very little danger with the puck once he gets there. Definition of a soft perimeter player.

Bunting has been meh, but he at least brings a grease that we don't have a lot of. Kerfoots great skill is something that half of our forward group does better than he does.

Well yeah, but that’s why you have him among the other half where we still need to generate offense.

Both have been much better in the past, and both have been junk this season. I assume they both start getting on the board soon enough. No excuse to not hit 50+ points.

Eh, Kerfoot has done it once and never been close other than that once.

And it came while glued to JT-willy for an entire season

re Muzz - shitty and serious sounding but hard to argue it is in any way conky related.

re Brodie - that is a really big loss. Obliques can linger too. gives some young'uns a chance to show their worth. Big opportunity here for Raz and Benn.

be interested to see if Hollowell gets a real shot here too.

unfortunately it's almost certainly Robby that comes out.

the lines i was thinking of night to put me to sleep....

Nylander - Matthews - Malgin
Bunting - Tavares - Marner
ZAR - Kampf - Engvall
Kerfoot - Holmberg - Jarnkrok

that's actually great news for Muzzin tbh. i thought the "neck injury" stuff was complete bullshit tbh. but a neck injury is much easier to fully recover from than a whole whack of conkys in a row.

I don't know why everyone decided to disbelieve what was being reported and substitute their own narrative! in some cases I agree that makes sense but the Dubie-era Leafs have typically been pretty honest about injuries.

damn, losing brodie and muzzin long-term in the first month of the season is a kick in the teeth.
I am guessing TJ is only out somewhere between 4-8 weeks. Strained oblique is what JT did too in the preseason no? It barely slowed him down. But some MLB pitchers can be on the shelf for a couple months with an oblique strain, so who knows.

Yeah, sounds about right but 4-8 weeks no Brodie still really blows. I'm glad both goalies are coming back.
