The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

if the medical staff suggests resting murray to start off, there's not really another option for keefe tonight.

It's mostly a bad sign re: Samsonov.

Murray just played 3 in a row and we have a heavy sked the next 2 weeks so resting Murray is the right move if they need him to start the majority of these games.

I can’t say I’m bothered by the decision to start Kallgren. Even if health wasn’t a concern with Murray, I don’t think you should be starting any goalie in the Babcockian way—where they play every game except for half of a back-to-back.

The Leafs also have four games this week.

The continued scratching and press box banishment of Robertson is pure undiluted idiocy, though. Can’t imagine what Keefe and Dubas are thinking there.

This seems reasonable. Though I don't think sitting Robertson has been undeserved, I think you gotta work him back in there.

Maybe.... they are showcasing someone else for a trade.

Agreed that it’s not undeserved. Honestly I’ve been down on him as a prospect for a long while now and what I’ve seen so far this year hasn’t been encouraging.

Still, there’s no benefit to him rotting in the press box. Either give him a long run of games in the NHL to see if he can get in the groove, or send him back down. Either way, he needs to be playing.

I've noticed Engvall getting talked up a bit on twitter and he's been in on some scoring plays recently as well. Maybe that's the guy they are trying to move and showcase and they don't want to have Robertson in yet, so that his trade value may be higher... I really need them to get rid of Kerfoot and Engvall in some sort of package to bring in one other forward and then Robertson takes a spot in the top six and the traded player takes third line C...

ie ROR. (although St.Louis has started to play better of late)

Robertson Matthews Nylander
Bunting Tavares Marner (for now)
ZAR ROR Jarny
Holmberg/Simmons Kampf, Malgin

Even if he stinks you have to play him. Can’t just let him rot in the press box. It’s not like there are 12 forwards lighting the world on fire anyway.

Well the priority is the team and the team has been discombobulated this year and I think Keefe is just feeling the lines starting to finally settle in a bit and probably doesn't want to disrupt anything at the moment. The other issue is that Holmberg has given him a more comforting presence at C than the other options had, meaning that he has to take out a winger for Nick to get in.....with the Kampf line playing well he doesn't want to remove ZAR and Malgin and disrupt it, meaning that on merit you're looking at removing a salaried guy in Kerf/Krok/Engvall which would be a bigger move but tbh i bet he's considering it.

The Leafs are in second place in their division.

If they won the 4 games in OT instead of losing and giving away the 4 points, the conversation would be different.

everyone panicked when he went down but the Leafs are 3-0-1 since and the only game they gave up more than 2 goals was when NJ scored their 3rd in OT.

That being said, they do clearly miss him and have started to concede way too many shots the last few games (~35 per game the last 3) after being a top-5 team in fewest shots allowed before his injury.
