The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

His production drop this year is mostly PP, (8% sh vs 16 over the last 3 years) which he wouldn't even play here anyway. I'd be more concerned about signing him to a long term contract than whatever you'd have to trade for him this year given his age and JT skating.

Kampf is still a legit beast in super tough usage. ZAR is decent in tough usage but not as good.

Engvall, Jarnkrok, Kerfoot, Malgin all very good in strong usage. Holmberg good in slightly softer usage. Robertson a bit weak so far but not in super soft usage.

Tavares maybe the most pleasant surprise - excellent defensive performance in strong defensive usage. Marner good too but slightly more offensive usage.

Matthews/Nylander/Bunting just not good enough defensively though, especially given their offensive usage.

I would put Malgin right back in and keep him there.

Leafs moved past VGK into 3rd last night.

Schedule lightens up a bit now - if the Leafs can for once stay focused against the easier teams they should be able to close the gap with BOS and NJ over the next month.

3 of these 4 dmen have been getting a lot of praise throughout leafs nation the last few weeks.

Love the idea that they ease him back with Timmins. Keeps the other pairs in tact and replaces Mete...even with one leg, Brodie is an upgrade on Timmins.

Absolutely stunned that the Leafs played as well as they did defensively without Rielly-Brodie-Muzzin, though Gio is at the very least an excellent Muzzin replacement. Stylistically, they did play a much more responsible game which helped the D as well as the third string goalie that they were forced to deploy. Would love to see this 3-zone style continue once everyone is back - looks very similar to how the Bruins play the game.

At this point the organization should treat Robertson about the same as Rodion Amirov. In that if either ever gets to the point health-wise where they contribute something, it'll be a wonderful bonus. But not something we should be counting on when mapping out our roster construction.

Kid makes Carlo Colaiacovo and Joffrey Lupul look like ironmen by comparison.

So, yeah. Glasses definitely has to go out and get us at least one legit left-winger in a trade.

the worst part is, if you look at that play, I don't see anything changing if and when Robertson returns to the league.

he got absolutely physically dominated on the play by a much bigger man, something that is going to keep on happening at the NHL level for him.

There’s also the fact that it wasn’t an especially hard or brutal play. He just got knocked down in a puck battle and landed on his shoulder, and now he’s out likely for months.

And all of his long-term injuries seem to look like that. Fairly innocuous looking plays where he loses a physical battle and gets knocked down, and somehow ends up badly broken.

I don’t see how you fix that. It’s not a fitness or style of play issue. His body just can’t hold up to playing against adult professionals instead of teenagers.
