The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

Gotta learn when to engage and when not to. Little guys have to stay low. His game is never going to be dominating board battles, you just need to be smart and give a credible effort on them.

We'll see the extent of the injury though. There's a huge gap between "going to miss some time" with a significant should strain (weeks) and with surgery (months)

I mean he didn’t have the puck and the guy hit him. Of course it’s a Leaf so no one is talking suspension.

Shoulders injuries can be just weird impact. Matthews fucked his shoulder on a nothing hit from trouba and everyone said the same thing (soft, made of glass etc).

I don’t think size has been robertsons problem in the NHL so far. Definitely different situation than Amirov.

I don’t think size is his problem either. We’ve had plenty of players around his size over the years that haven’t had his kind of durability issues.

I think his problem is that he just has the misfortune of having a body that’s inherently fragile, at least in comparison to most professional hockey players. And like guys like Lupul & Colaiacovo before him, I don’t think it’s a problem that can be fixed or will go away.

That was the reason for lumping him in with Amirov. Not because they’re comparable situations, but just because I think each has about the same odds of ever being a real contributor for us.

Last Week: 3
Record: 17-5-6
Dom rank: 3
Sean rank: 3
Is their record for real? No.
Six of Toronto’s 40 points have come via losing so that’s already a red flag. Another red flag is that every expert and pundit thinks this team needs a defenseman and yet the Leafs somehow didn’t lose a single game in regulation with their top three defensemen all out of the lineup at the same time while posting some of the best defensive numbers in the league. That’s the kind of run that just doesn’t add up. If everyone thinks the team needs a defenseman and is succeeding despite that deficiency –– that success has to be a hall of mirrors inside a house of cards. The only other explanation is that the Leafs are a good defensive team and that would simply be preposterous. The losses will start coming soon.

Dom’s a good kid.

Note that Durzi came at Pierre with a high stick in the first place and if Engvall hadn't blocked it with his stick he would have had a stick in the teeth. And that's right after durzi crosschecked him.

I say Kadri gets 4 games because he's a repeat offender.

Also, a couple games off will give Engvall time to work on his abs.

So if Muzz is out until playoffs, Leafs can add both O'Reilly and Tarasenko at 50%, only needing to move Kerf out to make it work.
Capfriendly says we've got $7.1M of deadline space. So if we got both those guys at 50% for a total of $7.5M, wouldn't we just need to dump Simmonds off the roster and then keep Kerf too with a few hundred thou to spare?

Every time I check the standings, the Blues seem to be farther out of the playoff picture, so seems like it is becoming a legit possibility they’ll be sellers.

Only problem with Tarasenko is that he’s a right winger. Though he is a left-shooting one. So I suppose you could either move him over, or put him on a line with Willy & move him to the left side.

Wish we didn't have to wait until the deadline. Would be nice to get someone now and have them be full integrated into the team. Spread the offensive load-out. Cliche but this team feels a different this year. More workmanlike, massively improved goalie depth. D is fire.

Matthews - Nylander
Tavares - Marner
O'Reilly - Tarasenko

Mammamia. But could it actually happen?

I mean, one of those guys gets a pretty decent haul, but two? Not sure we're going to be willing to part with multiple 1sts and multiple prospects to just totally clean out the next few years of draft and pipeline for two UFAs.
