The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

It's one of the reasons I love the NFL. The college factory produces a ton of quality. And the players aren't teenagers, so they're way easier to project.

I agree that 4 years of free labour for their college masters definitely benefits the NFL. It's like a market of sorts where individuals with no freedom get to perform athletic feats for you before you decide if they're worth spending money on them.

Definitely a wonderful system

Yeah, this is a pretty good explanation of the thought process. I'm sure there's going to be a lot of unhappy people that we traded the picks if we're out in the first round again, and fair enough, but I kinda think you have to push hard while you're a consistent ~110pt team and hope for some fortune. The idea was clearly to prioritize our prospects who were closer to being cheap depth than picks who are years and years away.
Basically saying you need a contender for 3ish years. Which makes sense.

Don't think it's likely but if they do indeed ship out Raz in the next couple of days, I still think they add a shit gudpro d as the 7/8 in addition to a middle 6 winger.

At this point, I am comfy giving their pro scouts the benefit of the doubt

I mean, yeah. But dude shot 20% last season en route to his 24 goals. Wasn't going to do that again. Shooting 6% this season though...probably won't do that forever either. Average shooting talent is like 10-12% though. That's a whole lot to give up for a guy that probably pots 15 a year most years.

Garland with big retention+Schenn makes too much sense on the surface.

Sheldon playing Schenn 19 minutes in an elimination game that we lose 2-1 leaving us bitching about needing more offence though, terrifies me as an eventuality should Schenn become a thing here.

As a break glass in case of emergency #7-8 I've got no problem with him. But coaches are gonna coach.

Thank fuck.

Agreed 100% but it’s a tangential point. Pigskin draft quality abundance is not contingent on exploitation… but on population.

our hockey is a niche sport across way more countries but played in relative small numbers
