The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

Our hearts can't take more moves today. Or our balls.
Speak for your own balls! I’m actually so insanely tired today. Jet lag, lack of sleep, and now excess drinking have drained me. I had to nap for a solid two hours earlier. More pass out than nap. So I think I need to pass on tonight’s midnight game, but it’d be nice to see what this final piece of the puzzle looks like already after all this.

It’s a lot of overhaul for a fourth overall team. He’s taking a pretty big risk at the end here. But - we’ve been shit against the basement teams all year, which has to be a sign of something bad, and maybe they thought it was lack of grit up front and need of some more speed, some size and toughness on the back. We also have two behemoths above us that we’ve never been able to slay. It seems Dubie decided to ditch conservatism and go with the instincts when it comes to what is holding us back.

This next move will be fascinating. It probably shapes our opinions of the guy more than any other recent move, to see what the final piece of the puzzle looks like to him. I can only think Boeser or Garland on the high side, maybe JVR on the lower side.

The other bit is if they trade Kerf/Holl they probably didn't have to trade Engvall.. So the way those moves yesterday all worked beautifully to get them perfectly under the cap gives me that nagging suspicion that they're not planning on doing any more.
It’s impossible that Dubie goes into the playoffs holding on to that Boston 1st. He’s clearly put it all on the line this year. If that pick is leaving, some decent salary is coming. And some decent salary will be tied to a more significant player. And that player will need to be fit in by moving guys like Kerf and Holl. So I think there’s sort of a domino effect here that starts from whether one thinks that 1st will be traded or not.

I can’t help but keep thinking about Karlsson over there. I know SJ wants to trade him and I think they want to badly. The closer they get to the deadline, how desperate will they get? We now have two 1sts to throw at them (would’ve thought Sandin had more value than the 1st but I digress), plus prospects, even an NHL ready guy like Holmberg. Kerf and Holl who they can flip to others. It all comes down to retention and what they can pull off, but bringing him in and maybe ditching Gus and Holl, then having Schenn as a true #7….EK is definitely the most impactful and intriguing name out there.

I think Gus will stay and he will be added to the second or third round roster.

The Leafs are planning on going to war against Tampa, and Tampa is planning the same thing with the addition of Jeannot.

If Schenn and Rielly are the third pair... I want Schenn hitting and taking the hits from guys like Jeannot, Perry Marroon etc.

Then when we make it past Tampa, we saw how we lacked offense from the back end the last time we played Boston... So in comes Gus, to move the puck a bit more... maybe capitalize on his PP skills and his ability to find Ovechkin with his stick up in the air, but this time it's matthews... and you rotate guys in.

Boston is a much more skilled team up front instead of the bruisers.

Engvall was baby shit soft in the playoffs 17 times. So dumb the love for this guy.

Kampf actually showed up against Tampa, and having him on the fourth line with some speed again (Lafferty, Acciari, Zar) might catch the slower forwards from Tampa sleeping. Kampf is great IMO.

I read somewhere that if you had a line of Lafferty Acciari and Zar they have something like 420 hits combined, which is about 100 more than The entire top six including O'reilly. That matters... that adds pain to the Tampa players that were only covered in snow from playing against Engvall.

You guys can shit all you want on my takes, but we have not had ANY success in the playoffs with the group we had... and we can't blame everything on the goalies.

I do want though a Kerfoot and a first or so for a left winger who can add toughness to the top six and still score. ERGO Crouse, Bertuzzi, Garland

I'm thinking Bertuzzi (assuming the border issue is resolved). Mainly due to him being a UFA and wanting to have a chance at keeping Bunting and O'Reilly. If you bring anyone with term you likely lose one of those two unless you can somehow get retention for several years.

There apparently was an article last week that I referenced about the NHL and the government changing the non vaccs rule for players working in Canada. The date was supposedly next week, but something about the NHL making a deal for it to be sooner.

The date I remember was mid 2nd round of playoffs but some optimism that they could work something out.

Crouse is signed to a reasonable contract of 4.3 for a few more years... he hasn't played a full 82 game season in a few years though... 25 years old though is sexy.

Bertuzzi OTOH has been a target for Dubas in the past and we know that when he sets his eyes on someone, he gets what he wants.

If somehow Kerfoot could go the other way with the first, you take away that player from Keefe and you make the top six tough as nails.
Play him with JT and Willy and that's crazy good.

Looking at Detroit another name to consider would be Kubalik. Signed for 2.5MM for this year and next year, 27 years old and is listed at a RW/LW.

Unless detroit plans to go nuts in the offseason to enter the arms race it would be a good time to consider moving him.
