for the record Schenn is better than Lybushkin. And way better than Gavrikov

plus he leads the league in hits every year.

Feels like something has to give on the D though. They can’t carry 9 D and no extra forwards. Especially if they need room for Knies.

But do you really want to trade Holl? I can’t imagine they move Timmins after trading Ras. Even if they don’t plan on playing him in the playoffs.

Gus makes the most sense to trade, but then why acquire him at all?

I'm with zeke mostly. The trades were all great till yesterday where they decided to actively get worse. Their depth got worse, their scoring got worse, and their d got worse. But I will not evaluate until I see the final product. I get that they're horny about dramatically shifting the look of their bottom six but I still see this bitch ass Kerf-Jarn combo that will carry the load offensively and if that can be upgraded I'll be a lot happier. Jarn was a failure for the Flames last year in the playoffs in the bottom six (by the end of the playoffs he was getting 4th line minutes) and Kerf is simply not someone you win with.

Kyle has gone this far to change a lot of the composition of the depth.. I trust that he's gonna finish the job here.

Dubas has finally seen the light and starts adding players that want to win and won't get push around.

He has had the better part of a year to address his roster and create the version that will be facing and defeating Tampa in round 1, and hopefully Boston in round 2.

I guess if you look at yesterday in a vacuum they got worse offensively, but in reality by adding ROR, Acciari and Lafferty over Engvall, Holmberg and whatever shit was playing they have actually added a lot offensively.

the Leafs forward pickups scoring ability is being overlooked. ROR is a consulting 20+ goal guy. Acciari is scoring at the same pace as Engvall, and has actually put up 20 goal season before. and Lafferty isn’t too far off Engvall pace.

and neither Acciari or a Lafferty get PP time like Engvall.

they had to dump a player with salary. Acciari and Lafferty combined make the same as Engvall.

let's relax until we see what forward Dubas is getting to replace Engvall, first of all. cause he's getting one.

as for Sandin...he's a small slow 3rd pairing dman who demanded a trade last offseason. getting a 1st+ for him is pretty good.

the best part of the upcoming Cup win will be zeke learning to love again with 3 time champ Schitt

Schenn and Sandin didn’t need to happen. They had to dump one of Engvall, Kerf or Holl though.

I would have gone with one of the forwards.

I’m just kind of surprised that more people are upset that they traded for a shitty #9 d than that they gave away Ras.

that was easily the worst one IMO.

The #9 D is going to be a regular and replace Holl. That's where peoples anxiety comes from. Now you're back to heavily sheltering the 3rd pair again.

Though, I agree that the Raz return was mediocre too.

Pushing Holmberg out on top of these subtractions sucks. Truthfully, I kinda hate Kampf. I think his name has been built up into something here that is more than what he actually is, which for me is max 4C. I get wanting more centers around, but any lineup that has him penciled in as 3C is automatically garbage because that third line is gonna produce dick.

And if Dubie didn’t like Engvall, I don’t really understand why he kept him till now to just delete him at the deadline for a 3rd. Nor do I see the reasoning behind trading Sandin now. The only thing that’ll make this all make sense is if in the next move, we’re getting someone relatively significant and we need that new 1st to trade plus the cap space of Engvall/Sandin to go along with that of whoever else goes (at this point only Kerf, ZAR and Holl seem vulnerable).

I wouldn’t defend playing Schenn over Holl, or Timmins. but if that’s Rielly’s pair then ya,

So what is up now on d?

McCabe-Brodie
Gio-Liljegren
Rielly-Schenn
Gus-Holl
Timmins

Still a great corps but it could have been a lot better without stapling a gudpro to Rielly again. Ah well.

Gus is sort of the forgotten man here. He’ll be on the roster. Unless Dubie plans to flip him? But his add plus Schenn seem to be more than just making up for losing Sandin. It does feel to me like Holl might go.

As for the Sandin trade being the worst one, I agree but they sorta made that decision to trade him once they got McCabe. McCabe and Rielly for the next 3 playoff runs means Sandin is at best a 3rd pair D.. And likely the 7 with Gio still kicking around next year. He wants top 4 opportunity and would have thrown a bitch fit if they didn't move him. If that's the best they can get for him, then it is what it is. Context matters. He was a goner in my eyes as soon as the McCabe trade was announced.

so I've had a day to sleep on yesterday's shenanigans, and I still hate the Schenn move. Engvall I can live with, but don't love if the plan is now to play ZAR. hopefully Dubie has more moves coming.

Yeah, I’m going to be shocked if this is the finished product. I can’t imagine that Dubas is going to:

  1. Hang onto that Boston 1st rounder past the deadline.

  2. Dump Engvall without bringing in more depth offense

  3. Depend on one of ZAR/Knies to be one of our full-time top-12 forwards.

  4. Continue to roll with 9 defensemen (none of whom can be demoted or waived) on the NHL roster

There’s another shoe or two that still has to drop.
