The Fucking Season Thread - Redemption Tour '22

Further credit to 101 for shitting on Barrie when the Leafs got him. The "he provides negative value both offensively and defensively at 5 on 5" take almost seemed hard to believe based on who he is but it has turned out to be accurate for both the Leafs and the Oilers.

Apologies for the dick sucking but I can't help but pump 101s tires briefly as these two thoughts randomly came to my head.

I still can’t believe that Flames fans & media kind of hated this guy, and told us to expect Jake Gardiner 2.0 when it comes to defensive brain farts.

Still don’t know where in the hell that assessment came from.
never watching Jake Gardiner play, clearly

I feel like he changed as a player. He was more of a risky roamer type in many Flames years. I do remember a lot of more mistakes out of him as a Flame. He's ageing like fine wine tho and giving the Leafs exactly what they needed.

If Covid had never happened, and Tyson Barrie had either played out his contract in Colorado or been shipped off to some backwater hockey market and racked up 50+ points, he easily would have signed a seven year deal at $7M+ per season.

Amazing how badly circumstances screwed him over, and just how divorced a player’s reputation can be from the reality on the ice.

We all need a pat in the back once in awhile when we say things somewhat against the grain like Brodie >>>> Pietro and Barrie: horrendous at both ends of the ice. You're officially the GM of the Leafs but only for D. We need to a larger sample for the forwards.

The funny part is Barrie apparently (seriously) said as an Avalanche many times that if he was on the Leafs he'd win a norris. And then he was a Leaf and his reputation was ruined! Funny how the players perceptions are consistently horribly wrong about what it's like to play D in this city.

While we’re handing out apologies and credit, Babcock deserves one here.

Sure, his snap judgments about particular players being shit were sociopathic and sometimes wrong, but he was 100% right about Barrie. Recognized right away that Rielly was better, and that Barrie was near-unplayable garbage he needed to shelter the hell out of.
