The Fucking Season Thread - Redemption Tour '22

I have a "why not both" (a forward and a d) attitude but I'm also extremely anti rentals and pro saving currency to help extend their window, which is far wiser than going all-in on any given year. The Muzzin deal was always my favorite.

we need a difference making player though or it's really not worth it...and there's only cap room for one of those unless something unexpected happens.

I wouldn't be shocked if Dubas stood pat and took his chances actually. he believes this team is much better than it has shown, and expending major assets when you think that way seems unlikely.

Get a playoff run with both chyc and muzz and moving forward whenever you need to let go of Muzzin, there's your replacement.

If he's actually good of course. It's something I much prefer to do this year and way ahead of any rental idea.

Need is a strong word. Especially up front. I'm pretty comfortable with how good this team is offensively if they play to their capabilities. And if they don't... Well no acquisition will be enough to help them.

Because firing all of the assets out the door for a LHD that we don't know if he can play on the right side, immediately before we attempt to make a real playoff run is a bad idea.

Firing that many assets out should answer your pre existing questions, not ask a bunch of new ones.

how can you be? our best player is barely top 20 in scoring. the team is (for what and how they're spending) a disappointing 11th in GF.

Well I assume the scouts would know better than us.

Top 3 in xgf/60 is pretty good. I'm not gonna knock them for some bad puck luck. If anything goaltending has covered up for their d which has not been quite at elite levels.

Either way I'm not picky about whether they get a forward or a d. I wouldn't mind a jolt and if they can get a guy with term that they can use for years to come (helping the extension of their window) I'm all for it.

They had better.

But you asked me why it's a better idea in the summer than now. That's why. If the idea is to convert Chychrun to the right side, you're a lot better starting that project in November than March.

Meh. If he's a big time young dman I want him for this playoff run too.

Gotta maximize the # of playoff runs you get with that top 4. To do that you acquire him now.

If he's good.

And that's why dubas got muzzin when he did and not in the summer. This could be more of a long-term fixture kinda deal. The eventual Muzzin replacement.

If he's good.

Paying all of those assets to realize that he's not a RHD and Mo is a significant step down on the right side...because we struggled in a playoff series experimenting with it all... would kind of suck.

And that's why you do your homework and make sure he's good. I'm saying this assuming it all checks out. Leafs can scout.

But fair about the RD thing. Championship teams take ballsy risks. I like the risk-reward profile here. Worst case you've got your Muzzin replacement longterm.

I'm going to guess that's either of

Edmonton: 2 of Puljujarvi, Yamamoto, Bouchard and a 1st
Vancouver: Boeser, Podkolzin, 1st

Manson, de Hann, chariot and risto appear to be the RD on shit teams that's are expiring. Have either giordano or edler ever played the right side?
