The Fucking Season Thread - Redemption Tour '22

His nerdies actually are decent, at least defensively, and he actually has been forced into top4 minutes this year for the first time in years thanks to the Ellis injury.

But him being top 4 I'd guess is probably yet another reason why the flyers suck. Last time he was top 4 (in SJ) the results were terrible.

Personally I stay away.

Might have heard that from me tbh.

Great timing for a slump. Even after this stretch he's still at .926 which tells you how good he has been this season. Keep waiting Doobs. Hope he gets his game back but if he doesn't you want to find out before you put pen to paper.

I love the irony in this market of Dubas being destroyed for contracts to superstars and those same people wanting to just open the vault for guys not in their league. They wanted Hyman to be give whatever he asked.

Jack's Price is "Only Going Up". I heard that right before he started playing like shit. Thankfully Dubas waited.

Dubas got Mrazek because he couldn't gamble on such a small sample size. He needed to see Jack for an entire season plus playoffs, with the starter workload.

Leafs are at a 116pt pace, and it looks very sustainable based on their underlying numbers (maybe should be even better, if anything).

Last 15yrs Top-5 points (pace) teams:

So the only times that 116pts hasn't been good enough for at least 2nd place in the league have been the shortened seasons - in other words, the small sample variation seasons, which is probably what we;re seeing right now halfway through this one.

So it becomes a question of which of the top team is playing the most sustainable brand of hockey, and i'd say the Leafs are arguably the least likely to fall off their pace.

Of course, there's always the chance that this season is special - that circumstances have widened the gap between the haves and have nots this year, maybe something to do with a bunch of teams finally really understanding how to work the cap right while others are still in the dark ages, and/or maybe that the last two weird seasons made a bunch of teams think they were doing things right when they were just getting lucky which has not ended in disaster.

One thing to keep an eye on for sure is the ridiculous scoring paces that Colorado and Florida are putting up. It's pretty dang scary. Colorado is on pace for 336 goals, Florida is on pace for 330 goals. Those would be the highest totals since Mario's Pens in 95-96. The only teams to crack 290 in the last decade are TB '19 with 319 and WSH '13 with 313. A betting man would say they'll both fall significantly off those scoring paces but then again maybe not.
