Foligno was a terrible deal at the time. Almost all of us thought so. The gross factor was so clear and bright that it shone straight through our homerism. He was worth one 2nd rounder at full value. That’s it. It was a massive overpay.
Yeah, it was blatantly obvious to pretty much everyone here except for Foligno's paisan.
Dude was clearly washed and, at best, a third-line calibre forward with minimal offensive production. And of course, he didn't even end up being that good, either with the Leafs or with the Bruins this year.
Top defensive forward on one of the best defensive teams in the league, getting all the big tough matchup minutes against the other team's top lines, and producing at a very solid 2nd line rate at even strength, for years.
until he blew his back out.
If another one of those guys is available this deadline, we should do the same trade again.
The buyout is $300k next year, but $1.1 mill the following year. Thats not really an option.
Well worth a 3rd.
In theory yeah, but nobody wants to be the one to do us a favor. The narrative has to be that we paid them something to take him.I don't really buy it to be honest - I think we should be able to use Ritchie in lieu of some retention. I think many teams would prefer to have an actual player even if overpaid rather than dead capspace.
