The Fucking Season Thread - Redemption Tour '22

Funny thing is, I don't even hate Chiarot that much. He has Habs stench to him, so that's a big issue, but I wouldn't pay anything more than some middling prospect for him, and I wouldn't even want to play him over anyone in our top 6 or even 7. He's just not a fit for us.

Now, if Chychrun is really on the move and we can put together something centered around Dermott and picks/prospects, that's something I'd be interested in.

Kyle did his due diligence and the Montreal front office puked it all up to their contacts in the hockey media to try to drive a market for him. Their ask appears to be obscene and they're probably going to end up circling around with a lower ask closer to the deadline.

following zeke on twitter hardly counts as dd.

So they passed yesterday but claimed him today?
Yeah I wonder what changed.

Unless they’re a useless, overpaid NHL vet, no Leaf is allowed to pass through waivers unclaimed. Dem’s the rules.

The more I think about it, the funnier this move is. Vegas is a conference rival for Winnipeg, and in theory a team they could be battling for a wild card spot. So there’d be at least some benefit to stealing some depth from them.

Yet they didn’t put in a claim for Brooks when Vegas waived him, but did when irrelevant, out-of-conference Toronto did.

Motherfucker. The teams that passed get another crack??

Why the fuck isn't it that only the teams that didn't get a crack behind us get to have a chance?

Of the guys out there with term, I don't see anyone else out there that makes much sense. If the dude is actually good it's a no brainer to kick the tires on that. 1.5m for the next 3 playoff runs is obscene value for a dude that is potentially a legit 2nd line LW.

I like Hagel as a trade target given his cap hit; the Leafs could improve their roster while saving money for other positions. However, adding an undersized winger isn’t their #1 need at the moment, and Hagel should not be mistaken for a strong play-driver like Conor Garland.

If I was the Leafs, I’d keep tabs on Hagel, but I don’t think I would pull the trigger on the “a first plus a good prospect” trade, even if the prospect was Roni Hirvonen instead of one of Toronto’s top four. I’d prefer to bring Andreas Johnsson back for a smaller haul while paying a third team to retain 50% of his contract.

If the Leafs trade their first-round pick, I’d rather get a better play-driver than Hagel, who I’d have as a secondary target rather than a primary target — someone to circle back on if they can’t find a better option elsewhere.

I've heard Johnson's name a few times now as well with the 50% retention.

I do think Tavares and Willy need someone who can dig out a puck in the corners and finish if need be. A Hyman/Bunting type worked well for them.. at least Hyman had that history with them.
