The Fucking Season Thread - Redemption Tour '22

Matthews has a real chance at the Hart this season.

I think he needs to win the Rocket, and we need to win the division for that to happen. Huberdeau is tied for 1st in the Art Ross race at the moment, and Florida is 1st in the division (6 points up on us, we have 2 games in hand). Tough to not give it to Huberdeau at the moment, just based on narrative (which is how these awards usually work).

I see another 2nd place finish for him this season.

yeah not saying he'll win.

but it's a real chance as opposed to years where it's McDavid game 1 and still McDavid game 82.

it's a bit more wide open this season

I dont think hubey has a chance tbh. Everybody knows Barkov is the man there.

And last year the oilers were much closer to the Leafs in the standings, literally next to each other in the division standings, and the Oilers were a comfortable playoffs team. I don't think a bubble Oilers team gets McDavid a landslide edge this year, especially since he's not scoring at a 150pt pace this time.

If Matthews gets the rocket as the 1C for a top 5 team, I'm not sure McDavid beats him in a vote even if he's 10-15pts ahead.

Maybe....but even though it seems like it lately, the Hart still isn't the Art Ross after all.

I doubt Hubey gets the Art Ross, but even if he does it'll be a very close race, and his lack of goals, the fact that he's a winger, the fact he has a poor defensible reputation, and that so many of his teammates are racking points are gonna make it hard for him to win I think even with a small edge in points.

7 of the last 10 won the Art Ross, with one of those other 3 being a goalie. The other two being wingers with poor defensive reputations (Hall & Ovy).

Sure but it's the close art Ross races where they start considering other factors more. Ovy had goals to consider, Hall had goals/lead over teammates/huge team improvement with him as the new addition seemingly responsible for it.

And I really just don't think hubey's gonna hold on the lead there anyways. His ppg is lower than mcdrai's and barely ahead of matthews.

So next year we have $9.7m in capspace with these guys unsigned:

Mikheyev ufa
Kase rfa
Engvall rfa
Spezza ufa

Sandin rfa
Liljegren rfa
Lyubushkin ufa

Campbell ufa

Although 2025 is a ways off, it's still slightly annoying that we could lose a 2nd on this.

Wish we could've thrown them some shit prospect way down our depth chart.

That's gonna be a tough squeeze.

I'm guessing they want to get at least 3 years from Sandin and Lilly, which would cost what, $1.5M per?

If Campbell gets $5M, and those guys get $3M, there's only $1.7M for both Mikky and Engvall. I suppose they can trade Dermott. Bury or pawn off Simmonds. Tough to imagine Kase coming back, and Spezza they probably try to squeeze in one more time.

Leaves no room for anyone new though. The way Muzzin is looking, guy is probably toast real soon. Hopefully we can get a superhero healthy playoffs out of him and then ditch him in the offseason. That would create room to add someone exciting.
