The Fucking Season Thread - Redemption Tour '22

But teams have to be able to replace injured players during the season, and then they cant just rule that they need to sit or shed them before the playoffs, so I don’t know how that gets dealt with.
except you have to remain cap compliant in the season. you do not in the playoffs.

Seems like a pretty simple solution to me. You pay the players by the day and not by the game and have the period be the whole season plus playoffs.

You get the exemption in season, so how can they take it away in the playoffs? What do you do with the added players?
LTIR isn't a thing in the playoffs. my understanding is its essentially a free for all.

so how it ought to work is if someone was still injured, they stay on LTIR, but if they are healthy, then you need to become cap compliant. both in season and in playoffs, this should be the same.

how it actually works is once the playoffs arrive, who cares.

I mean, it's the same rule for all teams, so it is consistent that way. but the practical result is team's like Tampa can win while being nearly $20 million over the cap.

which again, no one will care about unless and until it is the Leafs.

Muzzin to LTIR is huge for Dubas

He needs to add but it's going to take money....a whole lot a spending money....patience...patience and time.....he has to get his mind set on this.....set on this....

Let's be clear though. The dude is a laughable serial diver. It's absolutely hilarious seeing him flop around as often as he does. He earned the fine and should have been fined far earlier. But I'm not sure it happens at all outside of this market.

I was mostly kidding about no one watching Zona games, but seriously, i bet no one noticed or cared there.

Not who cares, but what are you gonna do? If you added or kept $20m in players because you had key injured guys out, what are you supposed to do with them when playoffs roll around? You’re past the trade deadline so you can’t dump them, you can’t bury their full salaries.

except both those 'can't do' things are true during the regular season too. you cannot just magically make money disappear off of your cap - you need to complete some sort of transaction. teams are required to be cap compliant after the trade deadline. and you cannot bury full salaries on a whim anyhow.

don't get me wrong, we should fully take advantage of the loophole. but that doesn't mean it isn't silly or not a loophole.
