The Fucking Season Thread - Redemption Tour '22

There also needs to be a more clear distinction of what is "injured" and what is not. It's such a weird line, because on any given day a player probably has a little something that could be declared an injury. I'm sure there are a lot of players who have been told by doctors to "never play again" - yet are not considered injured until they get another concussion.

It seems to me like the simplest fix would be to just make a rule that the 20 players you dress for any given playoff game can’t have a total cap hit that exceeds that season’s upper cap limit.

That’d still allow some wiggle room, but it’d blunt the advantage of Tampa or Vegas-level cap fuckery.

Soon to be Leafs level cap fuckery I hope. Because if they can do it, we should be.

I mean, Tampa even wore T-shirts to their Cup parade bragging about their cheater bullshit with Kucherov.

So yeah, fuck it. Go big. Make a complete mockery of the cap system. Get Forsberg & multiple other players all on double-retention. And then trade for any good player with an expiring contract who’s currently on LTIR & could be back at some point in the playoffs.

Ya we'll have exactly one crack at this loophole, so if you're going to use it you have to go as big as possible.

Plus, who knows what another year of this lovely timeline we’re in will bring?

Maybe by this time next year, the Zeta variant of Covid will have combined with Super-AIDS and Ebola and wiped out 99% of the world’s population. Or we’ll all be dead in nuclear hellfire. Or a zombie apocalypse for reals, now that everyone’s sick of the genre?

Win now baby.

Yeah, I'm not ready for the era of sexually transmitted covid, or airborn Aids...whichever happens first. Let's win a 'chip before we all die.

i don't even see this as cap fuckery --Muzzin got injured. need to replace him.

If the Leafs do expose the this LTIR loophole, who does everyone think will be the first opposing GM/President or tv personality to call out the league for having a massive problem?

They can potentially have a playoff roster with a 103 million dollar payroll. I don't think the NHL intended for this to happen during the most important time of year. Call it fuckery, call it a loophole, call it whatever you want. It's a cheatcode!

it's business

nothing remotely cheaty in my eyes; retention is allowed

the cap still works in its #1 function; protecting irrational owners from overbidding and adding cost certainty to player salaries (the number #1 cost owners face)

Leafs "cheated" last year with Nash.

I actually made the same arguments last year for Tampa and said that I'd be rooting for us to do similar. It's all within the rules right now, dooooo it.

But I still expect it will get outrage when we do it. We can't even leave our facilities open in the summer without people bitching.

@Presto I know...I know...my logic is undermining how you want to perceive Dubas: a total fucking badass outlaw with a massive nerdy super calculator brain and an even bigger sexy dick.

Never said it was illegal! It's the right thing to do for contenders! Not even saying that the leafs invented it, if that's why you're debating this! But it's no doubt a bad look for the league. They're gonna feel pressure to close that loophole if the leafs win with a payroll 22 million dollars over the cap.

I don't mind it tho and it makes things a lot more fun than they otherwise would be. It would be pretty exciting to see a couple teams per year build an all-star team at the deadline. Sucks for the other cap compliant teams but that's business, as you say!

people bitching is part of our digital world

I knew it was about that! This isn't a dubas or leafs thing!

I'm not debating if the Leafs invented it or not. I simply don't think it's cheating. Muzzin didn't concuss himself. Yeah, maybe they'll change the rule if the Leafs add 3 elite guys at the deadline....but if they add one stud, people will deal.

If anything, Kuch healing just in time for playoffs is something worthy of investigation.
