The ****ing Pre-Season/Training Camp Thread (2019/20)

Sandin looks great. I love what I see from him jumping up into the play. He makes great reads and is consistently finding soft seams in the o-zone and providing outlets for the forwards. I knew he could defend, but he has legit offensive potential, unlike a guy like Dermott or Lilly. It'll be interesting to see how he handles it as things get tougher next week and it moves closer to NHL rosters, and NHL speed games. But he looks ready at this stage.

In an ideal world he or Dermott supplant Ceci on the top pair by the end of the year.

Is that site generally accurate? Sandin looks bigger.

wiki actually does usually get updated faster than any other website - including the nhl and team websites.

the team site has sandin listed at 184lbs still.

Surely they do these measurements with the health check ups at training camp. It never seems right though.

they do, but they never seem to update them on their public lists. or at least not regularly.

guys are listed at their draft height/weights for years, even on the team sites.

I'm sure most players are fine with keeping it quiet. Many probably don't want it to be well known how small they are, or how fat they are.

Kaskisuo on waivers.

and...vegas puts Sparks on waivers too.

I still have a hard time predicting how our goaltending situation will shake out at any level.

Figured Neuvirth was the front-runner for the Leaf backup position coming into camp, but the fact that he's living up to his injury-prone reputation by being hurt before even getting into a single pre-season game for us doesn't inspire confidence.

Hutchinson just isn't very good. He's fine as a third-string goalie and backup goalie of last resort, but he's not the guy that'll allow us to keep Freddie well below 60 starts on the season.

Then when you get down to the minor league level, you've got two young kids in Woll & Scott that need playing time, as well as two older non-prospects in Hutchinson & Kaskisuo who will be down there with them. Have to figure Hutchinson will platoon with one of the kids with the Marlies, and then Kaskisuo will be a platoon/backup goalie for the other kid with the Growlers.

So, maybe Freddie's backup for the coming season isn't currently in the organization. So that brings up the question, which teams currently are in the situation the Leafs were in last year, and have a surplus of goalies? And are any of those guys an upgrade on Hutchinson/Neuvirth, and cheap?

A bit worried about the backup situation. I mean, they've gotta find someone The Cock can trust or he'll play the shit out of Freddy again.
