The ****ing Season thread, 2015/16 Edition

It'd be nice if Gardiner started scoring a boat-load of points, but as long as he keeps cutting down on the errors, driving possession & effectively moving the puck out of our end with his skating and passing abilities, he's providing the team pretty fair value for his $4.05M cap hit. I bet a team with a bunch of plodders on their back-end like Pittsburgh would probably kill to have Gardiner at that cap figure.

Those numbers as they relate to Phaneuf are pretty interesting too. I had no idea that he was benefiting so much from being paired with Gardiner.

I feel like kadri and gardiner have the same issue right now, when they make solid passes and plays they don't have people capable of scoring around them.

Its funny because as it turns out Gardiner is turning into Brett Hedican. He has the high end skating, but the puck skills and offensive instincts just aren't at the same level. Its weird to see a guy skate like that and not have the matching puck skills/instincts. When he skates it looks like he spent his whole life on the pond.

But regardless he is a good player, and just getting better now that he has cut down on trying to force things.

I'd rather have a guy like Gardiner than Phaneuf's even though Phaneuf is the superior offensive player.

I remember saying this during his rookie season, that something just seemed off about his ability to generate offence, despite the obvious massive tool set....and got shouted down by the majority of the board.

I compared him directly to Hedican...and frankly, Brent Hedican was a really good hockey player. Would it be nice for Jake to turn into a 50 point version of Hedican, absolutely, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen.

What's the sample size though?

I don't recall Gardiner playing with Phaneuf until relatively recently.

Which either means one of Reimer or Sparks is out for a long time...or a Bernier trade is incoming.

Probably this.

Talk about an overrated career this guy has had. How is he a known name? Looking over his career numbers he's been a bum his entire career. A couple of hot headed meltdowns and he's a known name.

goaltending is voodoo. Sometimes you have it, sometimes you don't...sometimes you find it for a while and then it goes away. ****ing voodoo.

Emery is signed to a PTO, so Reimer /Sparks may not be out for that long afterall.

Without Sparks AND Reimer, right now the 2 NHL goalies are Bernier, and Bibeau (they gotta recall him for tomorrow night's game) .. they simply do not have enough goalies for the AHL club, and that's why Emery is signed.

All this making the Gibson trade look even MORE stupid now. Gibson is 10-2-4 with the Islanders' farm team posting .924 SV% this season

Trading Gibson meant neither Sparks nor Bibeau would have to play in the E. Which makes sense if the organization viewed them both as better prospects than Gibson.

Bibeau has been a turd for the Marlies.

Our goalies for the most part are garbage throughout the organization. Resorting to sign doodoo in Emery is embarrassing. Not that i care for Chris Gibson but they should've played whoever was the worst of Bibeau, Sparks and Gibson full time in the ECHL instead of throwing Gibson in the garbage.

I really hope Lou can identify a quality starter for us next offseason. Its pretty shitty how we haven't had competent goaltending in a decade+ now.

+ considering the inability for Reimer to stay healthy along with Bernier being pretty fragile each year he's been here you'd think they'd be better prepared for something like this.

yah, most teams are definitely prepared for two of their top three goalies getting hurt simultaneously while the other plays the worst hockey of his pro career.

So annoyed they have that lottery protection on the pick.

There's no reason we should've had that restriction when we were eating salary.

Yeah, it doesn't look like we're going to be getting their 2016 first rounder. The Penguins are now five points back of the last wild card spot, and eight points back of the last playoff spot in the Metropolitan division.

****ing Pens.

You have to think Crosby isn't going to score 50 points this year though. Once he gets going they'll win games. He's starting to heat up too with 12 points in his last 13 games.

Fleury's injury hurts though.
