if he doesn't get another job in hockey this year then we're back to taking his original statements at face value.Next time, just listen to me from the start. It’s so much more efficient.
Also…how fucking sweet would it be if he doesn’t get the Pitt’s job, or any job this year? He will have so much extra time to work on The Dubas Family.
yeah this is the reasonable take IMOI truly believe him that his families happiness was a major factor in his decision making process I just think he handled it poorly
while possible, not at all a good look for the Dubie-man.In your profession have you ever seen anyone adamant about one thing only to have an enticing offer thrown at them which makes them change their mind?
Then they scramble to get it done and leave a mess literally everywhere?
That's what I think happened.
Nah. Need some drama and a hint of conspiracy.yeah this is the reasonable take IMO
Huh? He’s interviewing for jobs that start immediately.if he doesn't get another job in hockey this year then we're back to taking his original statements at face value.
was that actually confirmed or just rumoured?Huh? He’s interviewing for jobs that start immediately.
If he doesn’t get a job this year, it’s only because no one offered him one.
I mean, he’s meeting or met with Crosby so?was that actually confirmed or just rumoured?
yeah okay this seems well supported. shady.I mean, he’s meeting or met with Crosby so?
That Pittsburgh tampered and Dubie went along with it and rather than just waiting till June 30 or telling Shanny he preferred a change of scenery, he orchestrated this elaborate scheme to tell Shanny he wants the Leafs job, tries to get more money, gets himself fired (just as planned apparently), becomes a rat liar in front of Shanny, the Leafs org, and its fans, all to take less money and move to Pittsburgh and watch Crosby gracefully retire over the next few years?@LeafOfFaith
He wants to have a GM job that he feels he has full control is my thought. If Pittsburgh dangled that carrot and he talked it over with his wife then yes, I could see an about face.
It also somewhat explains the messiness of the situation.
-Dubas loves job
-Family stressed
-Dubas looks to lessen stress by wanting autonomy clearly thinking it would be different without answering to anyone but ownership.
-Pittsburgh smells the disgruntled Dubas as the NHL is an incestuous small community and plants a bug in his ear
-Talks it over with wife and they both decide is for the best to move on for the families sake
-Dubas throws napalm
I actual like this better than the wife demanding anything. It's a very reasonable time line and situation. Where's the leap?
nah I think it would be more like this:That Pittsburgh tampered and Dubie went along with it and rather than just waiting till June 30 or telling Shanny he preferred a change of scenery, he orchestrated this elaborate scheme to tell Shanny he wants the Leafs job, tries to get more money, gets himself fired (just as planned apparently), becomes a rat liar in front of Shanny, the Leafs org, and its fans, all to take less money and move to Pittsburgh and watch Crosby gracefully retire over the next few years?
But he doesn’t get to do that in Pittsburgh. He’s locked into keeping their core and building around it, likely with actual interference from above. Why would he want to dump his body of work here, leave this young core, uproot The Dubas Family, and take less money for a worse situation? It doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.I also don't understand this aging team and would he want to do so. Why? Because it's real life fantasy hockey and if you are truly a geek the thrill is building a champ from scratch. That's the hard part and where the respect comes in.
until we know what was actually the biggest issue or barrier for him (either personally or professionally) it is pretty impossible to answer this question. But he doesn’t get to do that in Pittsburgh. He’s locked into keeping their core and building around it, likely with actual interference from above. Why would he want to dump his body of work here, leave this young core, uproot The Dubas Family, and take less money for a worse situation? It doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.
Dubas is what 37?But he doesn’t get to do that in Pittsburgh. He’s locked into keeping their core and building around it, likely with actual interference from above. Why would he want to dump his body of work here, leave this young core, uproot The Dubas Family, and take less money for a worse situation? It doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.
I don’t believe Pittsburgh even thought that he could be had, to start putting feelers out there. Dubie wanted to stay, and his agent would’ve told them that. And they certainly didn’t make any offers or issue any guarantee, so he’d have to roll out all these machinations without even knowing if he could get that job (why’s he being vetted by Crosby now if he had it in the bag?). And why the fuck is he dying to go to Pittsburgh again?nah I think it would be more like this:
- Dubie and Leafs are talking contract, reach some sort of agreement
- Dubie hears from a little birdie that Pitts likes him and would be willing to offer him xxxx amount, which is higher than Toronto
- Dubie talks to his wife, who the fuck knows that they discuss, but it leads to last Monday's press conference
- Dubie tries to gain leverage in Leafs contract talks through presser, fails disastrously
and the rest we mostly know
I'm not saying I subscribe to this theory, but it is plausible to me.
I.e. the thing that changed or moved the needle was Pitts reaching out to Dubie (illegally, I may add) to try and tempt him away. He begins having second thoughts, decides if he's going to stay he should at least earn what he could elsewhere, etc. etc.
Why does he want to ditch his current job with unfinished business, leave under the circumstances he left under, to get a chance at reshaping Pittsburgh “in a few years” after they’re done catering to Crosby? What is compelling in any of that?Dubas is what 37?
Henry says do what you can with this group, make the team competitive and you'll get the rebuild in a few years. Thats what they're waiting for. Dubas has been with the Leafs 9 years. Do you think if he now did that with the penguins that the old team would still be around the last 5-6 years of that?
Long game and Kyle is a thinker.
