The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

Then why come back in the final minute with more demands via email? How his and his agent handled the final days tells me they knew Shanny and board would walk away but he walks away playing the victim

I have no concerns about having a change of heart but they didnt appear to be negotiating in good faith
We do not know the details though.

"I only want to be here or take a year off" now translates to I have a great offer and I'm willing to wait a year for it.

If Pittsburgh decides to roll with an interim this season just burn them down.

We do not know the details though.

We don't need financial details to know how this is poor contract negotiating etiquette if the time line Shanahan laid out in his presser is accurate

It screams they had no intention of returning to me

I can see the family position being “why take less money to stay in Toronto and let our kids be harassed? Ask Toronto to match or beat what you can get in Pittsburgh.” Also explains why his letter was from “the Dubas family.”

If that’s what happened though, he handled it very poorly. Which is maybe not a surprise when you think about how he handled other contract negotiations.

everyone's fighting their own battles. you seem to object to how you think he fought his based on limited information.

Yes, all my points is based on what Shanny said, Kyle's presser and his tweet, and these Pittsburgh news. If there is anything left unreported, I would of course change my opinion.

being mad at him as a person shows a big lack of empathy IMO.

he obviously did not handle himself brilliantly in this negotiation but he's already suffering the consequences for that (i.e. lost his job). the personal vitriol just seems like beating a dead horse to me.

I empathize with him greatly. My first or second post on this matter was that I hope he doesn't end up having a mental breakdown. Being mad at him for throwing away a winning lottery ticket while everyone dream of that opportunity doesn't show lack of empathy IMO. I cheered for him hard as he lived the dream for all of us, I am now equally mad as he mishandled this.

and I disagree with your characterization - he came out and said the job is hard on his family. he did not say publicly that a few extra millions would heal that, and we have no idea what terms his counter offer contained.

Whether it was more money, more power, etc the fact is that he threw in a new contract offer after months of negotiation. His plea on national TV indicating that his heart may not be in it also hurt.

It comes down to this for me, I think Kyle forgot how miraculous him getting this opportunity was and after nine years, he acted like this is a type of job available to anyone and risking losing is not a big deal.

IMO, probably this and IMO, those rumoured numbers are real.

.
Not even execs. My dad did this in blue collar work. No doubt in my mind it saved his life and I'd rather live in a trailer with my dad that have it kill him.

He did this for the first time at 40. Of course it was a month after the last hab cup and they haven't won since... So...
Stress is the #1 killer of men

Men are the #1 killer of women

You forgot to give credit for the quote: Joel Osteen
No dude. I will remain positive through whatever I can. The only way to atone for mean is through niceness. I'm working through that.

Joel Osteen touches young boys and can fuck right off. (Hey growth is a process).

I aspire to be a very chill, zen human being with solid, unmistakable cunty undertones.

Now that I think about it, he had a contract in hand that he was going to discuss with his family, why even say publicly “you won’t see me pop up for any other jobs this year”?
Because it was all part of a dumb, poorly executed con. He didn’t plan to go anywhere else, he was fully intending to keep working. But you know, $4m per to keep GMing the Leafs was like indentured servitude. Now he can move to Pittsburgh.

Dubie: you won’t see me somewhere else next week!

Somewhere else: oh hey, I wasn’t expecting you here this week!!

Shameful really, and shows that he’s a dishonest guy whose word means zero.
