The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

It’ll be interesting to see if he gets the Prez job because… be careful what you wish for. Even Presidents have bosses and he might find John Henry, who sounds like he fancies himself a baseball nerd, has even more opinions than the MLSE board.
I once met John Henry years ago at a Marlins event and he was polite enough to have a couple minute discussion with some of us low life’s. He struck me as brilliant and calculating. Very methodical so I would agree with this. If Kyle is remotely fudging things about his analytics knowledge Henry will pick that up very quickly.

I still can't believe a 37-year-old Ontarian threw away the job of a lifetime.

In another podcast Doug MacLean mentioned Kyle asked to have lunch with him once to get his advice on how to deal with a disgruntled ownership group. Story is that at the time Kyle suspected he'd be fired by the Greyhounds.

Sometimes later he gets a miracle cold call from a hall of famer in Brandon Shanahan, and the rest is history.

29-year-old Kyle Dubas would absolutely be shocked at how he handled himself this week. He will never be fully satisfied with his jobs for the rest of his life.
Unless he wins a cup.

John Henry enjoys running baseball simulations in his spare time. Surprised SuperGeek is out and Brock U is in.

Maybe Kyle is trying to eventually switch sports. I don't see how the Penguins job is more enticing than the Leafs job.

Not to mention he's got to live in Pittsburgh. His wife will be bored out of her minds. Only so many times you can eat and "meat and potatoes" and visit mount Washington.

He goes to Pittsburgh, impresses John and eventually switches to their baseball side.

There's some beautiful countryside in western PA, perfect for a family looking to de-stress.

Does he strike you as a megalomaniac?
No. He's always looked like a highly accomplished but level headed person. Everyone around him speak well of him as well. That's one reason I liked cheering for him instead of being jealous. Nice guy who got to live the dream for all of us. And why I hate how he handled it this week.

Many execs downsize. It’s not that uncommon. He will get satisfaction from any gm position if he gets one.
Not even execs. My dad did this in blue collar work. No doubt in my mind it saved his life and I'd rather live in a trailer with my dad that have it kill him.

He did this for the first time at 40. Of course it was a month after the last hab cup and they haven't won since... So...

I see your point. This is not a normal job though. It's not a bank executive who could "shake up " the boardom and become an exec in the healthcare industry.

There has been fewer than 210 GM's in all of NHL history. What is he left to do? Move to Pittsburgh of all places and again be a GM? Take on a lessor role with significantly more normal salary?
100% not a normal job and the they know it

Its a grind on personal and family life but thats reality of the position

Your making millions so your family is well taken care of and if your fiscally responsible you can walk away in your 40`s

I think Dubas fucked up big time , pissed away dream job of a lifetime

He was never getting full autonomy and get used to the fact that you have a boss to report to

Other than the 1950s mentality of many in that region western PA is an awesome place. He will buy a house in Sewickley heights and be able to get away from hockey.

He isn't 65 years old though. Pittsburgh's winters are boring. Even in summers, City is not really close to anything in the way more eastern cities like Phily are; so you can't take a drive and see something new. There isn't anything noteworthy to look forward to on a day to day basis there. Going downtown is a hassle with traffic, and when you get their it's all underwhelming.

Having said that affluent folks like Pens' players have stayed there for duration of their careers so maybe their experience is different than a middle class fellow's.
