The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

So for 5 yrs we didn't hear a peep about how inconvenienced poor Dubas was making trades and how it cost him making unbelievable deals to elevate the team, yet a second after his money/power grab got him turfed the sob stories come out from his media pr people, lol.

Maybe someone should ask Mirtle/Jonas why Dubas didn't get approval if he was even considering moving big pieces before he started to look at trading them?

I'll put if this way, he said if he came back everything was on the table so he'd plot out his potential action pan and if had half a brain present it through Shanny to the board and get his answer one way or another which would eliminate any lag time in finalizing a deal on our end. Also it's not like moving a big money piece happens over the course of a couple of phone calls so i have no idea why his pr guys would make themselves look like idiots trying to spin his failed coup as a way to streamline decision making.

I would never hire him for the simple reason that he fucked up with the PR. What's to prevent him from pulling that sort of crap again with the new club? Pittsburgh is not concerned, I wonder why?🤔

Oh right, they're likely in on it.

The more I take all of this in the more stupid this idea was to let Kyle be GM without a contract. It burned the Leafs bad. Just fire him last summer if you believe he's not worth extending.

If you're annoyed by the public circus going on right now - just know that no matter how this all happened, the drama would still be the same.
Well my comment is more about what is best for the Leafs not this drama. Everuything Leafs will always be silly overreation.

I mean we’ve heard all about the mutiny/world ending and the only guy who had left the ship is the guy who didn’t actually do anything.

Better overreaction than sitting on the fence. And it's not like I think this now, I thought this last July. I figured they'd get burned over it.

But…he was worth extending according to Shannhan until he abruptly lost his way emotionally and became unreasonable in his demands

Dubas had no interest in staying by that tiem at all. He wanted out. It's pretty clear. You don't act that way if it's your Dream Job like many are claiming it is. He would have gladly signed for less summer 2022. You also might have had better candidates if you fired him.
Leafs sat on the fence and are not better for it.

but if he signed last year… and had a change of heart for whatever reason two weeks ago, you’d possibly be stuck with him right now

Ultimately, there was never going to be a scenario with Dubas leaving that does not involve a great deal of disappointment regarding the franchise

I am convinced Dubas wanted out. His actions tell me that. He didn't want to be here. I think there wasa beliefe from many summer of 2022 Dubas was a bumbling fool who would just sign any contract offered if Leafs decided they'd keep him.

Whats the difference between firing him this year or last year?
I'll rather be prepared and not have this situation. Monday he gives a press conference and has a deal on the table and by Wednesday night Shanny has changed his mind.
Leafs waited a year to decide only to change opinions in 48 hours.
