The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

I'll rather be prepared and not have this situation. Monday he gives a press conference and has a deal on the table and by Wednesday night Shanny has changed his mind.
Leafs waited a year to decide only to change opinions in 48 hours.
Sunday he has a deal on the table.
Monday he publicly can't answer if he wants the job or thinks he can do it.
Wednesday face to face he can't provide Shanny clarity.
Thursday he has his agent send new demands. Thursday evening says he wants the job via email.

100% reasonable to walk away.

This team is pretty close, playoff heartbreaks coming down to a few bounces, needing Mathews/Marner to be more heroic in deciding games, needing a bit of a psycho player that’s not a liability otherwise, needing a different HC.

This Dubas drama will slowly fade into the background and next deadline everyone will be talking about “who should we get for our playoff push”

I agree 100%.
Issue is all of this occurs because of the brilliant idea to wait and decide.

If Shanahan had fired him last summer, the complaint from Kyle’s apologists would be that Dubas deserved another chance.

At what point of last year or this year was the right time to make that decision that would have made any difference to the reaction?
But I never said anything about the reaction. That's not an issue with me. It's about the situation the Leafs are in now.
I said this last July. Nothing new. I figured this would happen.

What's the situation? That they're looking for a new GM?

There's no angle to spin this where the Leafs come out looking good, no matter whom you choose to blame.

I agree. Though my main criticism is of Shanahan being prepared to bring Dubas back at all following this season.

If he’d chosen to give him this past year as one last kick at the can and then fired him right after our season ended, I wouldn’t take issue with that.

They have a really shitty pool of candidates to choose from.
They spent a year to decide on Dubas then in 48 hours changed their minds. Yes, understandeable given his actions. BUT they put themselves in this situation.
Leafs really thought they could just keep Kyle hanging and then just give him any contract he'd sign.

If they hire a treliving type this year wouldn't they have just done the same last year?
I have no idea.
But remember, I never said they should have fired him which you seem to be claiming. I sad they could have signed Dubas. I wanted a decision. I said this 11 months ago. Not exactly a reactionary change of heart.
I would have been fine giving Kyle a 5 year extension last summer.
