its proper form to let the new gm you hire decide on coaches, scouts etc
Firing GMs doesn’t happen all that often, DD not being let go with Bergevin was the anomaly
Maybe he's waiting for Dubas to accept the job in Pitt and then have to ask the leafs for Keefe. To wit we would answer.....sure for a pick.As far as Shanahan criticism goes, I should also add that it’s either dumb or gutless that Keefe wasn’t shown the door at the same time as Dubas and that he’s still here.
Dumb if Shanahan’s preference is that this guy remains our head coach.
And gutless if he thinks Keefe should go, but he’s leaving it to the guy he hires as GM to take care of that bit of dirty work. Would also be unfair to Keefe keeping him twisting in the wind instead of freeing him up to pursue other jobs.
Why do they owe Keefe anything? He’s under contract and getting paid, and if he gets fired by the new GM, he’ll keep getting paid anyway. And gutless if he thinks Keefe should go, but he’s leaving it to the guy he hires as GM to take care of that bit of dirty work. The emotional fan in me wants his ass fired. Presto is logical here though.Seems fair.
Ultimately, Keefe should probably go though.
Also doesnt force the new GM to make an instant decision on his first handpicked coach. Gives him a year to line it up if he needs it.

But we got over the first ground hump. I guess if they turfed him last year, Potentially Keefe would b gone too so maybe third round?Better overreaction than sitting on the fence. And it's not like I think this now, I thought this last July. I figured they'd get burned over it.
And it would be a bigger indictment on Keefe should the incoming GM say nope, you're not my guy.Its not even the emotional move imo. We've watched him bury kids and get out coached in the playoffs every fucking year he's been here. I will say it again for the people in the back, but winning in the regular season with rosters hes had isn't an accomplishment of note.
I agree with all that but it should be up to the next GMIts not even the emotional move imo. We've watched him bury kids and get out coached in the playoffs every fucking year he's been here. keeping him now greatly increases the likelihood that he stays on under a new GM, providing a convenient scapegoat after we lose in the 1st round next year.
