The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

“We don’t have that extensive a staff, but Brad used it all,” the Flames staff member said. “He’s a big analytics guy, but he’s smart about it, and uses everything he has to make decision. You have to be that way.

“The bottom line for us in Calgary is that Brad is a good dude. He’s going to be well-liked in Toronto.”

Analytics guy, good dude, wears glasses, family got him first job in hockey, loves jarnkrok... uh oh.

all I'm saying is that the argument for Keefe's impact is far clearer than the argument for Dubas'.

remember, I like dubas and the job he did for the most part.
even if you make that argument, doesn't Dubas deserve credit for Keefe's impact because he hired him?

i.e. Keefe's impact is actually part of Dubas'?

Sounds to me like he'll use analytics far more than Dubas did by the end. So that has to be a major upgrade. I don't think any of the other names floated save for Tulsky has that sort of vision on how to build a hockey team. So of course I'm relieved they went with him and not a lot of the other names out there.

In 1996, Treliving co-founded the Western Professional Hockey League (WPHL) and served as the league's Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations for five years. In May of 2001, he helped facilitate the merger of the WPHL and the Central Hockey League (CHL) and was subsequently named President of the CHL, a position he would hold for seven years before joining the Coyotes organization.

Was wondering what he did in the 10 years between retiring and the Coyotes. Dad bought him a league. the Zach Hyman of hockey execs.

Judging their record against the track record of modern leaf futility, and not their current competitive contemporaries, is some navel gazing, leafy bullshit.

#5, #2, #3, #5 in GF% under Dubas/Keefe.

103, 111, 112, 110pt paces (sans SO wins).

I’m more than happy with that and suspect it stands up with just about anyone else over that same span, save one or two teams maybe.

Ignoring that successful level of play over their 3.5 year span, is absurd imo.

Keefe is clearly an excellent coach. The criticism is how he kinda over coaches in the playoffs.

But its tough to attribute how much of the failure blame belongs with that, and how much to Dubas' flawed roster construction.

I mean they've lost a ton of low event, one goal games, and that is the game Dubas built this team to play. I don't think Keefe gets off completely though.
Keefe is the guy sitting Lilly for the likes of Ceci, Babushkie, and the worst version of Holl. He's the guy who didn't want to get Knies into the TB series until Bunting got kicked out of it. Sandin was never exactly loved and no doubt caught his ticket out of town because Keefe wasn't a fan. Holmberg went from him seeing "no flaws in his game" to never playing again.

He also stubbornly keeps players together when they're not clicking, adapts when it's too little too late, and can't win at home in the playoffs.

Can we blame this on Dubas when he makes those kinds of choices? Is the fact that there's a Lafferty and ZAR in the lineup and Dubas gave him those guys the reason to absolve Keefe? I don't know about the "getting off completely" part - it's on him in a big way.

this is some of your dumbest posting ever, and everyone can see straight through it. Lol.

Agreed. Hope Treliving is not on board with the black hole scrub part of the Dubasplan.

hate Keefe.

and no, I don’t…..keeping him would probably be the best move Treliving could do, given his dog shit track record hiring coaches.

we should be so lucky as to get one more year of basically Dubas’ vision, before the Tre-rotting kicks in.

And yet you just mocked the Leafs for keeping Keefe.

Put some respect on Greg Gulutzen
