The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

how about when he added Murray? or Boosh? or Foligno?
Like I said, there were some missteps along the way.

Foligno was a terrible trade that only one person liked if I recall correctly.

Babushkie was fucking garbage all the way, but I didn't know for sure who to blame. Up until the last deadline, I thought Dubie just gave Keefe a 7th/8th guy for depth, and Keefe somehow via broken telephone thought that this was a first pair defender. Not a terrible trade or anything, just a terrible use of a shit depth piece by the coach.

Murray happened this year, so that's part of the going off the rails, not learning from the Mrazek fiasco that he literally had to handle five minutes before getting Murray.

rewatch it, it’s clearly a pre-planned hackey bit theyd set up.
I watched it a few times to see if I could detect that, and it didn't quite look like it was planned to me. Did the reporter really want to get nailed like that before signing off? Treliving certainly got him way worse with the comeback.

or Clifford? or Simmonds? or Ceci? or Barrie? or Kerf?

Dubas has some questionable decision making from day one, and was always fighting back against "the analytics GM".

Fortunately, unlike Treliving, his mistakes were always cheap. Aside from giving away top end players of course

Kadri trade was a debacle too. Plenty of errors that added up which is not unique; they happen. He was basically an average GM. His best trait was keeping everyone together, but I don't think he built around them as well as he should have. That's where I hope the new glasses can improve on him. Hard to do much worse tbh.. Felt like Kyle didn't even try, especially up front.

I have a hard time being upset at the Kadri deal if looking at it through the lens of that moment in time.

The guy just got his ass suspended again, basically twice helping torpedo postseasons, and had to go. We didn't deal a guy who looked capable of 90 points or whatever he got with the Avs two years ago, that's for sure. And Kerf looked way, way more promising than he ended up being, and was doing fine imo until just totally falling off a cliff. Barrie was someone who ended up being terrible, but didn't seem like he could be anything but a pretty good offensive dman from afar (from up close, the worst defensive dman I've ever seen).

In hindsight, horrific.

Oh sweet summer zeke. You’ll get no such thing. Mainly because the media probably think the Blake Coleman deal is a good thing

True. Both Burke & Nonis loved overpaying for expendable depth from previous Cup winners. And there was always a large cheering section for those moves.

maybe it's okay to spend a few bucks on the bottom six, rather than trying to galaxy brain a bunch of league minimums. Just don't do it by spending $3.5m on Alex Kerfoot.

The Kerf deal wasn't a bad deal at the time of signing it, or even after signing it.

It turned into a horrid one because Kerf turned into a 4th liner and we wouldn't cut bait.
