The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

Good call…we should probably not give Dubas any credit for this one either….so scratch Keefe, Hyman and Bunting off his successful moves list.
Literally called it a once in a lifetime bargain signing. Did you think that was an insult? Are you Kyle?

one guy bridged for 3 years, lost him after two…..the other signed him for 5, and we still have him.

If Treliving manages to cost us Auston now? That’s on him.
If you think Shanny hasn't been looping in the big guys into the GM convo, you're underestimating his intelligence.

He knows what he's doing. Matty isn't going anywhere, especially when it's clear that Dubie has settled in elsewhere before Matty's situation is even resolved.

Does Treliving bring back a Dubas acquisition in RoR? Or does he prefer to use that money on a real TreRotting move, to put his stamp on the team?

…I’m saying he shouldn’t get credit for just being lucky. I’m trying to help whittle down Kyle’s list of accomplishments to zero.

I don't believe ROR wants to return based on his statements, and I don't think the price he'll want will come anywhere close to the value he'll bring.

I hope Treliving walks from him, unless he's willing to sign for a true bargain and play 3C.

…and I’ll say it again, that’s why I think people vastly under appreciate the value of a GM that doesn’t make monstrous fuckups. Cause like you say, they’re all gonna make ‘em, but how much can you limit their frequency and their catastrophic downside.

We’ll have to hope Trelivings learned a ton from all his albatrosses.
It's a lot easier to not make mistakes when you don't really do anything risky. Kyle's entire plan revolved around keeping the core 4 together. He was unable to sign any egregious contracts because he literally couldn't. They'd be over the cap. Great job and all but I think it's time they bring in a GM who has the balls to make a big, more aggressive move to help give them that extra jolt. This is where Kyle failed and I think Treliving can excel. Kyle was a good GM, not great. He set the table well but botched a lot of his decisions that attempted to fill in the blanks on the roster. Time to try a new look.

fwiw regarding ROR i heard chicago wants him to insulate Bedard for the first few years, and they can pay him more or less whatever he wants as long as its a 3 year deal or less.

IMO they need a couple centers, and to give the kids a legit shot.

Knies-Matthews-Marner
Tavares-XXX-Willy
Robertson-XXX-XXX
Jarnkrok-Holmberg-Lafferty/blahblah blah

And they have a ton of cap space to make impact additions there too.

If they could add a top 4 D to push McCabe down the lineup that would be ideal too.

Rielly-Lilly
Brodie-XXX
McCabe-Timmins
Gio

I know this JT to the wing thing has taken root but JT is still a better C than most Cs in the league.

Okay, so what's the decision, are we allowing Treliving to take over or not?

We've debated it to death already.
Tans is mad that people here don't think Dubas is the GM of the century and thus automatically thinks Treliving will be a dud.

I'm open to the idea that good GMs exist outside of Dubas.

We are at a crossroads I think.

maybe you should stop being unreasonable

You won't find a better player than JT, but if you can get a guy that is better in transition, on exits/entries to improve possession in playoff matchups, and still retain all of JT's elite offensive benefit on the wing, if not even increase that, its a win.

1) you’re kinda proving my point, by demonstrating how little you value the skill I referenced.

2) he absolutely could have made egregious signings, if he’d traded one of the core four, signed the James Neal and Kadri type contracts for two players instead of going for Tavares…..he could have not extended Rielly and spent that cash on Markstrom

…there’s a million different ways to fuck things up that look to have been so simple with hindsight. and we see it all around the league, all the time.

pinned.

I love the optimism…but Trelivings history has some pretty big botches all over it.

If Tres can get Auston or Mitch to score some clutch goals, he’ll be successful

TL;DR you guys have a great team; enjoy the fuck out of it

Yeah sure i just wouldnt limit our options by saying we need 2 good Cs. We truly don't.

But sure if we can, thats great.
