The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

Didn't JT ask Keefe to try him on the wing when they added ROR? Doesn't sound like a guy who thinks he's still hacking it as a top centre, or particularly wants the responsibility anymore.
I think he said he was fine with the plan, but didn't initiate it.

If Treliving can just put together a solid supporting cast, one that doesn't need to be sheltered, one that has a little upside and doesn't wither come playoff time - that would be a solid job IMO.

Don't need him to galaxy-brain trading any core guys - just surround them with guys that take the pressure off once and a while.

And yet you just mocked the Leafs for keeping Keefe.
I think you're being disingenuous here.

Keefe is overall fine. He did great things in the regular season. He tidied up our D-zone play a lot.

But he is consistently and repeatedly outcoached in the playoffs.

He consistently and repeatedly prefers to play slugs over our young talent.

Etc.

You can admit he's done good things but also think to succeed more than we have we need to replace him.

if he restricted himself to just attempting this, and found one Bunting/Hyman type gem for the top 6, I’d consider it a successful first season….assuming he has himself a solid draft as well, which Presto assures me he’s a god at,

Stop burning 1st rounders, get guys like Knies who can potentially step in soon after being drafted, and play the fuck out of them instead of garbage like ZAR. Zarbage, if you will.

Are you discussing in overview or specifics? Because the 30 thousand foot view leans Keefe and I don't like any of your people. Just saying.
Keefe deserves a lot of credit for the sustained RS success, and a lot of the blame for the sustained PO failures. Which is why I want to move on.

That and his loathing of young talent and boner for gudpros.

Fanfiction = your version of Kyle's success in Toronto. He was thoroughly mediocre. I wanted him to be better too. He's young, attractive, and knew how to handle a calculator. Easy guy to root for. But sometimes you have to fold your hand and acknowledge that he wasn't the guy we thought he'd be. It's okay to admit it.
I mean his cap management alone was excellent. But agreed he didn't necessarily move the needle getting the roster over the top.

He most definitely kept the window open, and helped it remain open. No small feat.

i was not interested in signing Markstrom to a deal like that, but it is kind of funny that he took a home run swing on a potentially elite goalie, as opposed to the Dubas route of ignoring the position year after year and then trading for Matt Murray.

and both approaches failed because goalies.

The annoying this is we ended up paying pretty much as much for goalies each year as they did.

How was any of that “fine” though?

That is pure dog in burning house meme.

Does he? Because I think an incapacitated puppy could’ve been behind the bench and the team would’ve achieved the same.

Or that he changed. He was the guy we wanted him to be, a few missteps here and there.

But then he went off the rails last year, showed some ridiculous instability after the playoffs, and was poised to make potentially devastating moves a la the Sandin and Engvall trades, just with Nylander and maybe Marner this time.

I loved the Dubester, but not the current stupid, unhinged, unreliable version of the Dubester.
I mean we all were saying at the TDL that he had either abandoned his principles, had his hand forced, etc. We were correct in some form.

I'm inclined to believe this is less of a Dubie issue and more of an OBC one.

Seems like Shanny has gone from fuck the OBC right back into its arms.

Honestly its probably just semantic bullshit….they’re obviously in touch with all teams, and if it’s not Dubas, it’s Gilman or Pridham touching base with the other teams lay of the land.

Burke used to have Nonis do lots of that as well.….I’d assume that’s par for the course.
