I think good players help improve teams. Crazy concept maybe. But it's my unique belief.you’re in the “Blake Coleman wins us that series, on his own.” camp?

You’re avoiding the question, would you want Coleman 32-35 for $4.9m on this current Leaf’s team….if they handed him to us for free?

Would you want Tavares at $11m for ages 33-34 if they handed him to us for free?
the thing about Coleman is the Leafs can’t afford that contract anyway. So that part isn’t important. But they do have to replace most of there above minimum depth.
and Treliving targeted players like Toffoli and Coleman in those roles, which would be a massive upgrade over the Kerf/Kampfs/Kroks of the world.
he’ll have to be more creative because of the cap space, but if toHose are the types of secondary players he targets that’s an upgrade on Dubas.

No. Easy answer. I didn’t want him at $11 m when it was free at all.Would you want Tavares at $11m for ages 33-34 if they handed him to us for free?
Fuck no….originally signing Tavares for 5 years at $11m would have been fucking amazing. Could be on his cheap-o contract with us by now.
I don't think he's the worse. Not the best though.im not sure what i am more disappointed in, the leafs actually hiring the worst realistic candidate out of the guys rumoured or the lengths people are going to try and twist this into being a good hire. we took a giant step back as an organization and brought in the worst possible guy to try and resign our best players. its going to be an exhausting summer
Don't you think it's worth pausing on judgment to see if maybe running the Leafs with their leverage would yield different results than having to resign guys in Calgary?im not sure what i am more disappointed in, the leafs actually hiring the worst realistic candidate out of the guys rumoured or the lengths people are going to try and twist this into being a good hire. we took a giant step back as an organization and brought in the worst possible guy to try and resign our best players. its going to be an exhausting summer

Nah, they can afford a Coleman or a toffoli. Just one but it’s doable.the thing about Coleman is the Leafs can’t afford that contract anyway. So that part isn’t important. But they do have to replace most of there above minimum depth.

Dubas in retrospect:
Knew to add key players:
1. Tavares
2. Brodie
3. Muzzin
4. Didn't sign any crusher deals to secondary or tertiary players.
And to be fair, all of those are big things that are huge reasons why we stayed so good the whole time. In his time here Lou didn't add any key players other than arguably Freddy. And Lou signed a bunch of bad contracts to boot.
Unfortunately, so much time has already gone by that those 3 key adds by Dubas are all 33-34 and diminished, and none of them were bargains in the first place.
Dubas also did manage to find some nice UFA bargains like Bunting and Mikheyev and Barabanov but those came at such a cost in other bad marginal UFA that ended up blocking and forcing out other players that i'm not sure where the ledger balances out there.
