The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

Also don’t agree on the Coleman signing being bad. Maybe in the last 2 years. But that was clearly a data driven signing. Hes a guy who was putting up 60%xgf and 20 goals with hard defensive usage in New Jersey. He’s really good.

yeah, was gonna say this. $4.9 is definitely too much, but Coleman is a good hockey player.

If someone was theoretically asking me to choose between Kerfoot at 3.5 or Coleman at 4.9, it's an easy choice.

agreed he’s a good player…..would you take that remaining contract onto the Leafs today for free?

$4.9m for 33-38pts a year feels tough….ages 32 through 35, no less.

Also, speed to burn. Plus skill. The two qualities we should be looking for in almost any add. Overpaid, but I'd rather have had him at his hit versus Kerf at his hit.

All these overpayments can't just be because the guy doesn't know value. Most teams have to overpay to land even the secondary talent on the market. The premium makes up for the location, and also saves any assets going out the door in the form of picks and prospects when adding a guy, so that's part of the calculus too.

In fairness, when he was signed, he came off much better performances with NJ and TB where it looked like he found another gear.

Looks like maybe those were outlier years though and the guy knew when to ratchet things up a notch.
