The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

A guy like Matthews is almost impossible to acquire -- you could offer 10 replacement level guys for him and nobody would make that trade.

best thing Babcock did for the franchise, by a fucking mile…

A teams prospect pool doesn't get graded on a curve, it's either good or it isn't and outside of Knies it's bottom end and with him it's still poor.

But feel free to explain how saying it's pretty good for a ''playoff team'' even though it's rated poorly compared to the rest of the league helps our roster down the road?

Most rankings have them as about average, though notably that was before Knies' impressive debut.

The system is generally rated as one of the deepest prospect pools around, but with question marks about impact talent at the top.

We'll see if the likes of Knies, Robertson, Niemela, Hildeby can be that kind of impact talent - their stats seem to support that they have that kind of upside at least.

No I mean the same roster as the team that finished 4th this year, with plenty of capspace to replace any of the free agents.
So the roster KD had to add large amount of players to at the t/d which gutted our draft capital now has to be replaced with other similar but cheaper players in the ufa market?

at least your consistent

Yup it was Shanny who surrounded himself with all of Dubies buds from the Soo, lol. I guess being a massive Dubas fan and drinking his kool aid for half a decade takes time to unwind once he's gone.

I don't even understand the back half of that but if you're referring to me, well, you don't post enough here to know better, but I am no "massive Dubas fan".

ask yourself this...who takes most of the heat and gets punted after 9 years of failure?

It's not Brendan, who is now embarking on his 3rd GM and coach combo.

There's something to be said for insulating yourself in a corporate structure. Shanahan has had himself a very good setup here. Very good.

I’m surprised I have to explain this but teams at different stages of competitiveness tend to have vastly different looking prospect pools. A team that already has elite players and is making the consistently is going to be moving picks at the deadline and shitty teams hey high picks. This should be completely obvious.

For the amount of picks we’ve moved, im we still have a large number of legitimate NHL prospects IMO whether you’re aware of them or not.

I have no idea what your trying to say since i already said in my original post that outside of 3 top players our roster looks bleak which you previously disagreed with yet still shift the discussion back to our top 3 players.

I take back all my insane Shanny slander for the record….every last ounce. 🤚🏼

I’d still rather have Dubas as Prez if I got to choose between them, but everything Shanny said at this presser today sounded exactly like the President who hired Kyle….and after the bizarre (but now understandable) presser, it was a huge relief to hear that.

Everything from Treliving kinda aligned with Shanny/Dubas philosophy too, so it’s about as good a turnout as one could ask for if you had to lose Dubas.

No they don't have to be cheaper players. The leafs have plenty of capspace to re-sign or replace and hopefully upgrade on the guys going out.

and remember, the Leafs were a top team with or without the deadline adds.

[0% of me believes Dubas was gone prior to his presser, or used his family situation as leverage, FTR. I stilll fully believe he thought he was staying at that point. ]

Treliving definitely doesn’t sound like he looks.

A “Treliving smash!” Presser wouldn’t have been a shocker. But he came off even nicer and nerdier than og glasses. but he is also a 6’4 tank that made Shany look small so he can handle the bullies in this market.

You used the same user name on HF so i know you feelings well enough.

The whole front office should have been canned imo, Shanny included because he's the one who brought in Dubas and then promoted him.

..there was one or two wide eyed Gase moments in there, and a couple bad jokes. But otherwise I agree.

I'm surprised i have to explain this to you but we're not ranking a scouting department based on the position and number of picks they had, we're ranking the quality of a prospect pool and based on that the potential of the grads to help the NHL roster.

It’s this kind of “honesty” that I think puts the players in a tough spot in this market.

Treliving’s not throwing any players under the bus was refreshing.

Jesus. Yes… our prospect pool is not as good as rebuilding teams lacking elite players who’ve been stockpiling picks. Great point.

It looks like you don't, though.

on HF being remotely even-handed with Dubas makes you a "Dubasite". I was also called a "Burke lover" years ago by the exact same people, for the same reasons.

conversely on here I am considered one of the most negative posters. this board is not that same as that one, there is a large group of self-loathers who run that place including the main "mod" that drastically skew the narrative.

fortunately, results and facts do not change and that is what I base my evaluations on. the only fact that matters is we have a 9 year period with 1 playoff round win(in which we were outplayed). There is nothing else you can call that except failure, provided you are an honest person.

how people choose to react to that philosophy in my posts varies, as I've outlined above.
