The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

I never made that point since my point had nothing to do with discussing the performance of the scouting department but what prospects we had that could potentially help the Leafs.

to be dead honest i'm not sure that many teams have a trio of talent like Knies Robertson Niemela ready to possibly make an impact next year.

That's not including the goalies Woll/Hildeby.

Roster in order of EV minutes per game in the Florida Series. Knies TOI from his healthy games only. free agents = strikethrough:

Matthews
Marner
Nylander

Tavares
Bunting
Knies

O'Reilly
Kerfoot

Jarnkrok

Kampf
Acciari

Lafferty
ZAR

Rielly
Brodie

Holl
McCabe

Schenn
Liljegren

Giordano
Gustafsson
Timmins

Samsonov
Woll
Murray
Bunting a UFA?

Bunting a UFA?

yeah let me fix that. also, i've bumped down the guys who were intentionally sat out games.

Knies looks like a stud the others we'll see, tbh i'm much higher on Grebenkin that any other prospect outside of Knies even though he's further away than the others.

Just saw mr. outside lens’s presser and he was great. Said everything I wanted, going to stay the course with the big boys (a little concerned over the mentions of resigning Matty but not a word about Willy), and that Keefe can’t quite mark himself safe on Facebook just yet. Also liked that he clarified that Tkachuk wanted out and so he did the best with what he could, but would’ve kept him. Gives me confidence he feels the same about Willy, and we already know Willy wants to stay.

He seems to have a little extra fire and competitive spirit than Dubie, which I like.

The only tricky part here is getting rid of Murray's contract. hopefully kyle still likes him.

And if you want you could maybe bump up Sammy's contract a bit, and maybe the cap does only go up $1m instead of the $2m i have here.

but generally this is what i'd be looking at this offseason - well over $10m in cap to add two good forwards (could be two very good forwards or one awesome forward and one good one).

Of course it could get more complex and we could decide to add a big Dman contract instead and then trade some D for F.

But the simplest way:

And if those two forwards spots are filled by ROR and Bunting I'm not upset.

I think Murray is tradeable but will either be to salary match, with some retention or with draft capital

I don’t see a path to a clean break. And I’m not sure the leafs have the picks to do this without some salary back or staying.

I'm torn on both Bunting and ROR.

ROR didn't impress me too much. I'd want him as 3C at a price he won't accept (or the market won't let him) unless he's so desperate to be a Leaf, which he frankly didn't strike me as being. I don't think he's a great add in the top 6 and I would not want to get tied into some long term big money deal along the lines of what Kadri signed. Full pass on anything like that.

Bunting I like and want to stay and to play in the top 6, but he was a complete nonfactor in the playoffs, where I'd have thought would've been his time to shine. Some form of Tkachuk lite. But he was nothing, invisible, other than a well-timed elbow. I won't be upset if he returns on some $4.5-$5M deal, but given that Mikky got $5x5 from Vancouver, what are the odds that some other team doesn't pay the former Leaf premium and give him $6x6 or something like that? That prices me out. At the right price, definitely, re-up, though.

I would like to see some big fish landed though. Meier would be fun if he goes UFA. Terrible playoff output this year, but last time out, 15 points in 20 games. Beyond those two postseasons, he had another meh one like this year, and his very first brief one. A relatively small sample. But he'd be the add for me. Him or Karlsson, though getting retention and all that...

An interesting month coming up for sure though.

By all means, trade him for some forward with an inconsistent record but with just one year left and roll the dice that way.

It is kinda hilarious that Dubie got him, and now goes to Pittsburgh where Murray made his name and probably would be welcomed back...

I think we kinda know what the cost will be.

--> $4.7m hit for 2yrs cost Ottawa a 3rd and a 7th to dump on us
--> $3.8m hit for 2yrs cost us 13 spots in the draft to dump on chicago (probably worth something like a 3rd and a 7th too).

$4.7m for 1yrs should cost us less than that do ditch on someone.
