The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

Your complaint was lodged and they decided immediately to change the nickname.

They are now the Awesome Foursome.

it's not about the nickname.

it's about writing articles about "breaking up the core 4" as a team building strategy.

Tavares obviously is entirely unlike the other 3 and it makes no sense to discuss his tradeability in the same terms.

Untreatable because of the NMC.

I mean there is no question JT is a core player here. He is at worst our 4th or 5th best player, and the captain. But I agree that he's not necessarily the same as the other 3.

NMCs get moved all the time.

So basically everything I've been yelling about for 3 years now. Our depth forwards suck, have sucked and rarely do anything ever. Fuck low event hockey.

Honestly, I don't see the issue in building a functionally good bottom 6 out of the cap space available, with what's already in the system. Anchor the bottom 6th around a good 3C, play the kids, and then make your deadline ads when cap space matters a lot less and retention fuckery is much cheaper to get. It was the basis for wanting rid of Kerfoot...if you're not a good 3C, what the fuck are you doing that is worth 3.5 million inside this team's cap structure? It all starts with a #3C that can carry water for a line in tough usage.

I wouldn't conflate Elliot's "interesting conversation" with what the Leafs were trying to do. every nerd worth their specs knows you try to win on multiple fronts, exploring every margin. what you were yelling about was also 90% of Dubas' job...he wasn't simply rooting for awesome foursome to score in buckets

the biggest offensive weakness of the team was actually the blueline.

How much of that was tactics though? If you don't look for offence in transition and once you gain the zone don't allow your defenders to shoot the puck from the blueline, you've basically eliminated the two ways defenders contribute offensively.

Definitely a part of it.

Kinda proves ME's point. All of MO's goals were when they were down and opened things up except for the game 4 OT winner off the draw.

Game 4 GTG
Game 5 GTG
Game 5 vs Florida 2 goals*

GM is the main part of that philosophy. Luckily Tree said he wants his teams to "get after it" and be "more aggressive" so hopefully that means what I think it means.
I was looking for a good gif, but didn't find one I liked enough.

But I did come across a totally random and irrelevant Bea Arthur one that had nothing to do with it that I considered using anyway.

Thought you should know.
