It's time for us to stop dreaming about Engvall. It's unrealistic to even think that they're going to sign him. It's a shame but it's the truth. I could see the Avs take a flyer on him.

A five-year deal would buy up the entirety of Matthews’ prime, his age-27, 28, 29, 30, and 31 seasons. It could also shatter the previous precedent for these types of contracts. The Leafs could be looking at a number as high as $14.5 million on the cap on a five-year deal.

I'm sure it has something to do with environment.

There's no other NHL city where they're lauded as legends before they even play, and showered with praise and affection like they are in TO. Does anyone in Boston think they're hot shit? Not when the Patriots and Sox are there. Who gives a shit about any player in Nashville? The Toronto guys can't help but get huge egos, and the players and agents can't stop themselves from feasting on the franchise.

Nothing has happened yet but yeah, I'm not particularly encouraged. These two were supposed to be the easier contracts.. The Marner one is gonna be a nightmare if Matthews decides to go the way that CH1 wants him to.
 
I feel like Tre will try and put together a bang/crash 4th line, maybe Kampf/Lafferty are a part of that - maybe not. Meaning Knies/Robertson/Jarny will all be competing to play on those top two lines (unless one of them is traded). I don't feel like we should count on either of Knies/Robertson to produce over a full season, Knies due to age and Robertson due to luck/genetics. We need at least one good scoring winger.

Just in time for him to pretend that the other players in the league are too stupid to realize the cap goes up going forward. Matthews is the first one to realize this.

All I know is if Kucherov and Pastrnak were Leafs, they for sure would've both been making $12M per years ago.

Do you have any doubt about that? If not, then it's the city, not the players.
