The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

You should definitely still kill yourself if it happens, because we'd fucking talk about what a shit deal it ended up being for the next 20 years.
He's a very good hockey player. And a mucho important legitimate center. You won't do better than that in a trade for Sexy Willy. I promise.

Lindholm (29) and Weegar (29) are both great players.

Willy (27) is probably better than both, but not by a huge margin.

If Lindholm comes in 2m per year cheaper than Willy, that is an added bonus too. Space for another Reaves.

Two excellent players, yeah. Solves a need to find the next Brodie for the foreseeable future and you deal with the drop off from Willy, but at least he's a legit center. I like the trade. But does Calgary? And does Willy agree to sign long-term there? That's the only way they'd do it.

If we are trading Willy I wouldn’t mind a younger, cheaper player with Willy upside. Don’t know who that is though.

jarvis and Pesce?

both teams would have to have Lindholm and Nylander signings wrapped up before dealing for them probsbly.

CGY gets the best player and gets out from weegar's risky contract, both important for a currently non-playoffs team.

There's enough there to start me thinking.

There is no semi winnable trade out there that makes sense for both teams outside of working with Calgary I think. But it's all dependent on Willy's desire to sign there (I'm sure Calgary would overpay).

I’m just glad I know we’re not trading Willy.

Willy might be on the verge of becoming a 50 goal guy. Gotta keep him.

Willy took a big jump up in his 25-26yr old years (aka usual peak years) to ppg level. Asking for another jump up is a tad optimistic.
He's going to surpass this past year at least a few times with the right linemates/team, but just how much, who knows.

Either way, even if he becomes a yearly threat to score 40, that's still amazing. He's shown he has another gear, just not whether he'll shift into it for full seasons. Lindholm is older and not the same consistent potency imo.

I agree, if we HAVE to trade Willy, then Lindholm isn't a bad option. I'd personally target Svechnikov, but I doubt Carolina moves him. In all events, I prefer to stick with Willy. I doubt he's determined to break the bank, and I think there's been far more discussion about the situation that it truly warrants. He'll extend.
