The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

only thing about trading the Krok is that then we're really needing all three of Knies Robertson Holmberg to be good and healthy.

So goaltending will cost us $4.3m this year. Finally, for the first time, in forever, the Leafs are actually going cheap in net. And the funny thing is i'm not sure we've ever gone into a season with 2 goalies that posted a .932 and .919 the previous season.

Looks like the last time we actually went cheap in net we went with Reimer and Scrivens, who gave us a .924 and .915 and carreid us into an undeserved playoffs spot.

Yes, but also, Jarnkrok is invisible in the playoffs as a firm rule....may as well tear the bandaid off now and live with it until the deadline.

They also went cheap the year before that with Gustavsson and Reimer, which was less successful giving us a .900 and .902.

ditching Jarnkrok would clear up all the cap issues for sure, meaning no need to ditch lafferty or timmins, and being able to run a 22 man roster (or run a 21 man roster plus buyout Murray).

With the additions, Jarnkrok was destined for the 3rd line anyway.

Surely there's going to be some late summer FA's and/or PTO's who can do what he does for just cheap enough for us to fit him in and run a 22 man roster.

Tatar, Puljujarvi, Bailey, Parise, Suter, Erne, Leivo, Comtois, Motte, Bjork, etc, etc all available. This is where having the biggest analytics department in the known universe is supposed to be a competitive advantage. Find a guy who can competently handle a 3rd line shift until February for cheap on a 1 yr who is interested in the Toronto bump for next summer's FA class with the higher cap.

Knies --- Matthews --- Marner
Robertson --- Tavares --- Nylander
Bertuzzi --- Holmberg --- Domi
Reaves --- Kampf --- Lafferty

I like the idea of jarnkrok. But he's a value trap every year because in the playoffs he is no longer a guy that is worth 3+ million. Instead he turns into another run of the mill league min guy. And there's enough of a sample size to be pretty sure if this.

So I'm not horny about dumping him but probably only because it's easy to fall for the value trap that he is.

I think we're at the point with this group that anyone who has proven ineptitude in the playoffs needs to go. As much as I've shit talked Tavares, he shows up in the playoffs, just not close to his salary level.

Kerfoot, Jarnkrok, Bunting, Holl, Mikheyev, Engvall.....all perennially shit the bed in the playoffs for us.

If that's what you get for league min, fine, whatever. But we've seen what happens when we're paying 10-15+ million of our cap on playoff passengers. Nope.

Just dump Yarncock. It’s not like the extra depth he provides on the wing in the regular season will be the difference between getting into the playoffs or not.

And then it’s well established at this point that he’s totally fucking useless in the playoffs.

That said, Treliving traded for the guy when he was in Calgary, so he might be too much of a fan to dump him as cap ballast.

Guys who can play any position up and down the lineup have value. He scored 20 last year.

but that might just make it a good time to trade him. You can probably get a 2nd for him, which you can use at the deadline to get a guy like jarnrkrok.
