And never even a threat to score in these last playoffs. He had the one goal in the blowout but otherwise he was just... There. Not necessarily bad, just a step behind offensively while holding his own defensively.

Very useful, quality regular season player though. Just a massive value trap that could be costly for contending teams to get fooled by if they give him too large of a role.
 
He only makes $2m. Your expectations are unreasonable. At his worst, he gets by, he doesn’t hurt us. I don’t think there’s a lot of awesome $2m players out there.

That's why I said he's a value trap. Because in the regular season he is worth more than his AAV. Easy to get fooled and give him a larger role in the playoffs because he'll probably earn it. But he tends to end most playoffs on his teams 4th line.

He's fine and very useful in the regular season but he's not a guy worth falling in love with.

Obviously if you can keep him you try to keep him. But they may not be able to and I'm simply saying it's ok. Not worth crying over.

I think it’d be bad to throw away a cheap 20 goals for nothing.

All I’m saying is, I don’t know why the hell we’d consider for one second keeping Lafferty over him.

The fundamental problem is giving a fuck about 20 regular season goals from a guy who has done that once in his career at 31 yrs old and followed it up with his career usual of 1 goal in 11 playoff games.

Put another way, Jarnkrok scored 20 because he got to play with players way above his talent level and the fact he spent so much time with them is an indictment of a team that got mollywhopped in the 2nd round. It's not a sign of it's strength in the least.

I would much, much, much rather have given that time and opportunity (last season and this) to players inside the organization to see what we had there, because we know what Jarnkrok is, and what he is, isn't going to help when it matters.

Nobody got mollywhopped. We got goalied again. We were the better team, and even if not, it was a toss up.

Jarny is the kind of guy who has the ability to contribute. He’s not going to drive your second line, but he’s someone who could help, and it’s unpredictable when. Maybe he has a great third round. He’s not useless like Laff, and good value at his salary.

Yeah, I don't see how you're any worse off on the ice if you replace Lafferty and his $1.15M with literally anyone on the Marlie roster making close to the NHL minimum. Like Bobby McMann at .765M, for example.
