The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

You should be able to get teams to retain salary on your own players. then the Coyotes can ice a roster of players they don't even have.

Tavares - Matthews - Marner
Kneis - ROR - Nylander

Would be a very solid top 6. Just depends on the contract lenght ROR wants.

Assuming Murray is gone and Muzzin is ded then we would still have cash to build out a solid bottom 6.

It’s hilarious that you will flip any stat to the negative when it comes to him.

Like he was “given” opportunities rather than earned them. Like all those other players didn’t receive ample or additional PP time. Like he’s on a list of total losers and finished third out of a bunch of shit players, including our three best players.

it confirms he played well to make it on that list, not the opposite.

I like process. I believe in process. xG is a stat that helps us determine if process is successful. Are we generating more good chances than the other guys? That can help us determine if when the chips are down, are we probably good enough to hang with the elite clubs.

But...when those chips are down and we repeatedly underperform our process stats, why am I supposed to continue caring about small sample process stats? Score goals you fucking loser.

So what that stat is really saying, is that John had a bunch of chances to lead the team he's the captain of, but underperformed in those situations by a lot.

Congratulations?

Excelled by a stat you live and die by in all other cases, as good as the best in the league in these playoffs. Better than all the other guys you always say are our true leaders, and who we rely on more because they’re superior players. But let’s disregard it this time.

I still dont think Tavares would just outright block all trade requests.
I don’t think so either with just two years left, but it would be a damn shame if they asked, and it would cement this franchise’s status as a rotten cursed piece of shit.

"live and die by"

I just explained the core of the usefulness of xG to you. Sometimes understanding process is very important (5 game slide in the regular season where you're getting goalied or otherwise just unlucky but winning the xG battle...don't panic. Player not racking up counting stats omg what's wrong with him but he's got good xG, he's playing fine, be calm). But in the playoffs only results really matter when you get beyond moral victory territory, win the xG battle but lose in 5 games? Choked. Do it every fucking year? Habitual choker.

One of the best trades this franchise ever made was trading a formed 1st overall pick, vet captain goal scorer that couldn't lead us to a cup.
We traded a very good winger for a younger, better, semi-elite center, franchise cornerstone type. We didn’t dump him for the sake of freeing up money to go try to find cheaper replacements because he was paid a little more than ideal.

We also didn’t trade a guy who turned down bigger dollars elsewhere to sign with us, a guy who always wanted to be a Leaf, literally the first time an elite UFA chose to come home to us in his prime. A guy who has been as consistent as any player in the league, who actually steps up in bigger moments like two goals to get us in front of TB last year, scoring to eliminate them this year, setting up the tying goal with a few minutes to go before elimination. Model character guy who is being scapegoated for the failures of two younger, better players who have set the standard for choking, if we want to place blame.

If we dump the captain that way, the franchise deserves to keep swirling around the bottom of the hockey toilet bowl.
