The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

Psssst

That includes all the PP chances he fumbled the bag on.

Also, it means that of all of our chokefuck losers, he was our biggest chokefuck who was given the most opportunities to not be a chokefuck.

Basically, this is probably not the flex you think it is and might want to consider just not doing the things you're doing and can't stop yourself from doing.

If he heeds this advice I’ll leave forever

It’s hilarious that you will flip any stat to the negative when it comes to him.

Like he was “given” opportunities rather than earned them. Like all those other players didn’t receive ample or additional PP time. Like he’s on a list of total losers and finished third out of a bunch of shit players, including our three best players.

it confirms he played well to make it on that list, not the opposite.

Tavares is still unquestionably an elite goal scorer. Can't take that away from him. Its going to get him in the HOF.
yeah fortunately his hands are still fucking fantastic. and he's strong on his feet and the puck too.

it's not like he's a complete liability out there or anything. he's just no longer an above average #1 (or probably even #2) centre and he's not worth $11m even if he's a super elite winger.

Heh, having one of JT and ROR on the ice so much in the playoffs definitely made me think of him. Their skating isn't THAT bad, but it did trigger some deep trauma.

Great post

Tavares Rank of Leafs 13 forwards

EV

#2) 3.13 xGF/60 (#1 Nylander 3.50)
#12) 2.93 xGA/60 (#13 Lafferty 3.08)
#7) 51.7 xGF%

PP xgf/60

1. Nylander 9.91
2. Knies 9.64
3. Marner 9.44
4. Tavares 9.42
5. O'Reilly 9.32
6. Matthews 9.28

The whole Tavares debate is moot anyway, since there’s not a chance in hell that a dude who took less money to come to the Leafs and who’s had three kids (one of whom is a newborn) since signing here is ever going to agree to waive his NMC.

Whether you love him or hate him, you’ll have to learn to live with him.

The real off-season debate is whether you’re trading any of the other big-3 forwards and if so, which one? And how seriously should they try to keep O’Reilly?

Very true. Think the best solution is to make him a winger and focus on bringing in a good #2C.

Unless you think Willy or Mitch can make the switch. I'm definitely open to trying that, but this organization never seems to have the patience that would be required to find out for sure.

Part of the reason I wasn’t super enthused with signing Tavares in the first place is that Nylander was an elite center pretty much all the way through his development, until he got to the NHL, and I wanted to see him get the chance to become a great #2 center for us. Wouldn’t mind revisiting that.

I don’t see it happening with Marner though.

Tavares going to pop 40 next year on Matthews LW

I’m not going to get my hopes up, but Claude Giroux is an example you can look to for a former #1 center who wasn’t too fleet of foot and who had a late career renaissance after moving to the wing.

where does he rank on actual GF/60 and GA/60?

isn't he also a bit of a PP specialist now too though?

not that those are bad, they're valuable. not $11m valuable, but that ship long ago sailed... we're into lemonade making time

Yeah, exactly.

I don’t see any way that we’re going to get anything close to $11M in value out of him, but there’s nothing to be done about that at this point.

All you can do is find a way to make the best of the situation.

I'm sure he can put up great counting stats next to Matty.

which ironically is further ammunition for the pro-JT crowd and while it would normally juice his trade value, that obviously ain't happening either.
