The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

I heard the 4M offer elsewhere (maybe it’s copypasta)

The control issue is important and if true implies there was some interference from above… like I mentioned a few times previously, there’s not many worse feelings than not being allowed to do your job the way you’d like to.
And if there was interference that pushed him towards traditional managerial decisions, they ain't hiring hiring a Tulsky type. And they're trading Nylander for Gudbranson.

I can see Shanny hire another nerd that clears big decisions with him

They better ask Shanny if Dubas had full autonomy. It would make me a lot more sad if he was forced into going gudpro and sweet spot of shared risky.
More interestingly...why was that a sticking point?

Did he not already basically have full autonomy, or was he forced to make moves he didn't want to? Hmm.

Especially if it's a public job and the world then blames you when things didn't go right.

yeah if true, the fact that he wants full autonomy codified in his next contract suggests to me that he did not have it previously.

especially when you get the blame for your bosses decisions

I'm not sure that all Leafs fans would handle Tulsky as GM very well. You have to accept that there will be moves that on the surface seem to make little sense and no player on the roster will be paid over what their calculated value is. Fan favorites will be allowed to walk or traded before they reach the end of their deal.

It's a different approach. You have to put full faith in the plan while watching some of your top UFAs walk. It's worth it in the end, but you all have seen all the gloom and doom derision about how the Canes build a roster. It's different.

makes me doubt the whole story tbh.
Makes me believe it.

Dubie just gradually became more and more disenchanted with his own prior team building approach and changed course, or was he slowly pushed off the track?

Like why did he stick with Engvall and Sandin all those years only to ditch them for NOTHING right before the most important playoff run of his career? I have to somehow find out the answer to this question some day.

This is like when I was stuck on why Burke didn't lottery protect those Kessel picks, and then I got to meet him and asked and he arrogantly told me he could've but just didn't want to. I need that moment with Kyle.
