Letting Lindholm go would be the worst one there i think...though was that really a financial move. He only got a $2m raise on his next deal.

I would think the Canes approach to being able to re-sign UFAs and Toronto's would be... pretty different from a financial perspective too though, no?

These huge free agent contracts all have those massive front loaded bonuses.

Sure the Canes wouldn't want to max front load every contract. But the cap is the cap. To me the Canes with Tulsky try to maximize every player dollar spent. If the model says Dougie's value is no more than $6.75 million then they aren't going to stretch over that number.

That hardball approach frees up money for the rest of the roster. Of course though also helping tremendously are the Slavin and Pesce long term deals. The Canes obviously have no Matthews or Marner level superstars. don't know exactly how the Canes would value them and if they would navigate negotiations the same way with such a star.
