The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

I think most teams in our position would have a little less in the cupboard than what the next guy is walking into. There's some good pieces there.

Just hope we go nerd again - it'd scare me hearing some of the names floating around for the Flames job, as an example.

So the tail wags the dog.

What a broken ass model to run your organization with. We're going to spend millions, hire specialists to produce massive amounts of useful data to make decisions with, spend more millions to pay hockey execs to interpret and make multi million dollar roster decisions with...but then let some former 13th forward piss on it all and light it on fire the day after we hire him because he has all the knowledge he needs from blocking a shot with his face in the playoffs once or twice.

As long as you get back basically the exact same pick for a player that you originally drafted said player with, several years after you drafted and developed him, you're in great shape.

no one is going to get the draft perfect, but the approach of skill > just size has been welcomed

I completely understand the trepidation given how bad we've been at drafting for most of the last...well...forever, and we appear to not be terrible anymore.

going into the series, I thought the Panthers D would be under a lot more pressure than what actually ended up happening

Yeah, and the speed took a turn for the worse, and the D isn't all that mobile for the most part.

I mean, a simple policy of speed and skill and ignore the rest would do wonders. And a coach who plays his best players, and actually favors the younger ones over the older ones. Like, isn't the point that you develop a Holmberg into a player so you get rid of a guy like Kampf now? If not, then I don't get it.

I’m more curious to see who the coach is next season than who GM is. Keefe has got to go.

Also happy to hear it’s becoming more likely we move on from Dubas. The guy has produced underwhelming results for 5 years now. Drafts have been middling. Trades have been more bad than good imo. No long term quality additions to the core group since taking over. Time to move on.

Pay the premium and get the best guy available. don’t know who that would be.

Yeah it is system speed not skater speed. The Leafs don’t play fast under Keefe. They did under Babs.
They also had players like Johnsson, Kapanen, and others who skated circles around players.

Although they may have been lacking in ways that have become apparent, their speed created room and creates a definite advantage.

Engvall and Mikky last year too. Devastating shit, even if wanting in finish.

I think a great coach would've made Dubie GM of the year for several years running.

Keefe actually dragged Dubie down.

Would love to see Dubie's next roster have its day under new coaching.
