The New Division

Yeah, we know.

Now apparently you know it too. Better late than never I guess.

not sure what you're crying about.

Lalime's .910sv% vs. the Leafs in the playoffs was actually better than his .909 regular season save percentage.

your team just gagged on the Leafs' massive johnson.

And that there is the entirety of the the Sens "massive talent advantage" over the Leafs at the time.

Feel free to post this evidence...

I ran the numbers ages ago and if you can find me a site that tracks shot distance etc. I'll do so again in my spare time. Basically, the Senators had most of their shots from 40+ feet away, had a few in close shots (slot or closer) and a mere handful where the goaltender was being obstructed. You need to look at the Leafs save percentage numbers with a grain of salt, because they were rarely put in the need to make a dramatic or game-breaking save. That changed against Philly as they crashed us constantly.

Primeau single-handedly beat us in 2003-04 for Philly. He was awful in the regular-season that year but he played the best hockey of his entire career that spring.

Hey, it's no crushing defeat in the finals, but we'll take it.

Meh.

Got manhandled by a much bigger, much better team. I guess on the positive side of things, it got Johnny Mucks fired, and it's been all uphill since then.

Getting to the dance, and finding out that you can't dance is better than never being there at all.

I think.

Hey Sens fan!

Why are you crunching numbers on such a stupid stat?

Ottawa just couldn't beat Toronto. That's all. The team was tough enough and skilled enough to beat other opponents, some of which kicked your ass...so none of it means anything.

You had our number 10+ years ago.

You never won the Cup, we never won the Cup, all of it is meaningless.

Hey Sens fan!

Because he's one of those fans that is as much an anti-fan of a rival as he is for his own team. He is exactly what he pretends to despise when he discusses the average idiot from the Team 1200.

Not to mention he's a soulless, bored, public servant who chooses to then trek across the bridge and live in Gat-E-no. Sad.

Hey, it's too bad that the Senators seem to be the only team that the Leafs consistently get up and go for.

Still happens to this day - with Reimer putting up better than normal numbers with us, same with some offensive producers.

Too bad (for you guys) they don't do that against many other teams. You might actually advance past the 1st round.

It's not shocking at all.

We don't have home ice advantage in every game like we did versus Ottawa.

Made me lol by the way.

Thank you.

Talks to try to get Jared Cowen signed on the dotted line aren’t close to finished.

Senators assistant GM Tim Murray and Cowen’s agent Rick Valette will continue talks this week to try to get the Sens’ last remaining restricted free agent signed to a new deal.

While there was talk on the weekend, sources say the 22-year-old Cowen and the team aren’t close to a deal, and more work is needed in order to get a contract in place before training camp opens Sept. 11.

If it’s a long-term deal, some believe Cowen’s camp would like something close to the seven-year, $27-million deal that defenceman Travis Hamonic signed with the New York Islanders. He makes an average of $3.85 million per year.

Ideally, both sides would like to get a deal done as quickly as possible so the Senators have all their players under contract and can focus on getting ready for camp.

Trying to close the gap that exists between the two sides, the Senators and Cowen have looked at short and long-term deals to try to bring the stalemate to a close. He will be one of the club’s top four blueliners for years to come.

But the Senators want to make sure he fits into their salary structure by making the right deal.

Blueliner Marc Methot, who has been playing mostly with top defenceman Erik Karlsson since he arrived in Ottawa, has two years left on a deal through 2014-15 that will pay him $3 million per season.

While Karlsson is the top paid defenceman at $6.05 million, veteran Chris Phillips will make $3.08 million in the final year of his contract next season. Defenceman Patrick Wiercioch signed a thee-year, $6 million deal last month.

Cowen’s camp has been tight-lipped about negotiations, but certainly views his role as bigger than the one Wiercioch will play. The Senators have to be careful because they’ll have to sit down to discuss an extension with Methot at some point.

Who does Cowen think he is? Luke Schenn?

And Hamonic is a terrible comparison. He's already a top 2/3 dman -- and he led the entire Isles blueline in icetime in the playoffs.

Cowen's been a bottom pair guy in both his seasons.

Cowen's main issue is his hip injury.

I would prefer to see a short contract - he's never going to blow the doors off like Subban did offensively to get that mega salary so just play it slow.

PS. How screwed is MTL on that next Subban deal.

MTL is going to pay about 2.5-3M more than they could have for Subban. Probably could have had at 4.5-5M x 5 yrs. Now they will have to give him a Letang type deal.

Given the salary cap is going up, probably not a big deal. I would have preferred signing him prior to last season but Canadiens' management always gives the two year bridge contract through stubborness.

A lot of deals are being signed right now that are going to be bargains very soon. They're going to be great deals when the cap is 70+.

Lock up your good, young players for as long as you can while working with a 64M cap. Doing a bridge deal is idiotic, unless you have no faith in the player you're signing. You're only going to pay more when the cap is substancially higher in the near future.
