TML? More like FML, amirite? Yet Another Off Season Thread

You have to believe teams like the Leafs (and now the Habs) have MUCH BETTER data breakdowns than us schmoes. You don’t spend several hundred thousand per year so your staff can scrape Twitter for insights from JFresh and EvolvingWild
I don't believe the Leafs have any proper data with predictability trends when it comes to goaltending. I'm still of the belief that no one does until someone proves differently.

Of course, it’s a work in progress. Otherwise you keep the magic accurate formula and fire everyone except someone who can use the calculator on their iPhone

Yeah, the twitter muppets who have ended up getting hired by NHL clubs have tended to not last long either. The quiet hires out of the McMaster math department though....

Oh I agree. And I do laugh at nerds on twitter talking with such certainty about goaltending as if they cracked the code with their horrible stats. Respect the people who admit it's a work in progress. And honestly a lot of it is the nature of the position... There just may be too many factors involved to ever come even close to evaluating them with numbers with the level of predictibility that we have for forwards or d. And that's okay too.

Every hockey fan with a few math courses under their belt sounds so confident on Twitter.

which allows unsuspecting fans to get excited about all their recent draft picks and new signings… Cherry picking from a sea of anonymous pundits is hopium

Aube-Kubel’s a 26 year-old midget winger who put up 22 points in 67 regular season games and 0 points in 14 post-season games for the Avs.

Don’t really get this one. But I think $1M can be fully buried in the AHL.
