Campbell at his ask has gotta be a flat no though, right?

If he's trying to get that 1A money, we're better off looking at Varly + Kahkonnen or something like that imo.
 
I mean, 5x5 and I think it’s a flat no.

5x3 years and maybe it’s just a function of being too tight to the cap, because seems fair.

The first order of business is flushing Mrazek. Can they do it, but phaneuf style?
 
Varlamov + Kahkonen then. 1 more year left on Varlamov (and might be able to get retention), and Kahkonen is a RFA.
 
The concept of trading a 1st for a goalie honestly makes me nauseous.

I might rather lose in the first round for the 7th time than do that again.
 
Why would Varlamov or Kahkonen cost a 1st?

Varlamov is a 5 million dollar backup in NYI, and Kahkonen is the only goalie out of 3 without a contract in SJ.

We would be moving excess assets for those type of guys.
 
Ask Presty, he keeps talking about 1st for Varlamov. The Articles of GAFA prevent me from even considering it, so I haven't looked into his situation. Just know I don't like it no matter what it is.

And now that I've looked - a 34 year old $5M backup? No thanks.

I'm all for moving excess assets for a decent goalie, but none of these options really make much sense so far. And Varlamov, I mean you can almost hear it in his name, that he's gonna Toskala us. I really want no part of him.

We really need Jack to step up and take a 3 year deal. He's still the best option.
 
Didn't MAF just cost a 2nd/possible 1st for like 1 month of hockey? That's a .905 goalie right there. And Kuemper cost a 1st+, no? After coming off a shit .907 season too. He's the better comparable to Varly. This isn't a year where you've got many goalie UFAs. Varly may be the only half decent goalie available other than Kuemper. I don't see how the isles couldn't get a late 1st for Varlamov. But if he doesn't cost that much then yeah, no brainer.

As for Kahkonen I could be wrong but I don't think they want to move him.
 
I can almost promise you guys that if we let Campbell go, he'll sign with a good team and Hyman us next year. Or Kadri us. Or Barrie and Ceci us. Or Verhaeghe and Marchment us. Take your pick, but he'll win the fucking cup while we have some shithead being a total fucking asshole in net for us yet again. Yay, we tried something different though.
 
$5M for Jack? I’d only consider giving him half that cap hit.

I don’t hate the guy and I wouldn’t mind bringing him back. But a big opportunity was there for him this year to earn that kind of contract, and he just didn’t take it.

He was a world beater for a couple of months, one of the worst goalies in the NHL for another couple of months and then either injured or mediocre the rest of the way.

If $5M does actually end up being the going rate for him, you let him walk.
 
Jack's agent got into CJs ear. His camp is gonna start at 5m. Most teams will start at 3. They probably settle in around 3.5-4. I think this one is fairly straight forward. Not sure about term though.
