TML? More like FML, amirite? Yet Another Off Season Thread

Gibsons big cap hit likely requires anh to take back some $$$. Maybe you can sell them on mrazek as they rebuild if you sweeten the pot a bit.

they did, after all, take back TOSKALOL once upon a time.

I mean sure but that's still a 6.4m 5yr deal to give to goalie who might not be very good.

Jack can't get $5m x 5 years out there. He will have to sign for less, if not dollars then term.

I'd much rather roll with him on a 3 year deal than take on anyone else's broken shit and try to glue it together.

Why, what is the plan over there exactly?

Piss away the remaining productive years of Kane while pretending you won't finish close to last, instead of just pulling the plug and rebuilding?
I have zero confidence there is a plan.

They should be doing a proper rebuild and tanking.

They should be extracting assets from TML to take on Mrazek and just suck during his contract, but i honestly think they might try to half compete.

You stupid fucking schitzo double-chinned idiot.

That's exactly what I proposed in the other thread which caused your meltdown.

You were literally like, shrug, they need a G, maybe they'll trade for Mrazek and give up an asset, completly ignoring how shit and expensive he is.

honestly I don't know the answer. goalies seem to be really difficult to evaluate and have lots of fluctuation in their performance. but there's certainly a compelling case to be made for trying to create and maintain a goalie pipeline so you always have internal competition...

Spray and pray

Draft kids that stop pucks, and stop trying to project them on any other factor other than "does he stop pucks?"

Principles of GAFA:

1. Never give a goalie too much term.

2. Never give a goalie a high AAV.

3. Always try to draft great goalies and enjoy their ELC years and then sign them to a team friendly deal.

4. Know that every fucking goalie will turn his back on you and kick you in the nuts when you least expect it at several points in his career.

How did Vasy look in the Columbus sweep? And TB was $18M over the cap last year, which makes it easier to pay goalies. If we were allowed to go over by $18m, I'd agree to give $10m to a goalie. Vasy did squat in the first round this year and should've lost if the big boys came to play or if the shoulda goal counted. We'll see how far they get this year.

They're also just in Y3 of that contract. Let's see how it plays out over the next 5 years.

TB is also just one team. How has Bob, Price, and other expensive goalies worked out?

And TB followed the GAFA protocols to an extent. They drafted Vasy, and got an ELC out of him, but then strayed from the protocols by giving him that huge deal. Two cups to show for it, but both in Covid years and now they just barely slip by Toronto and not because of goaltending.

There are exceptions to every rule. Want to emulate TB? Go for it, but you're more likely to end up like the Habs and Florida than TB without the Covid bump, the $18M cap exemption, and other Prestified breaks along the way.

Habs and Florida are special cases of stupidity. If you threw 11 million dollars at Pierre Engvall this summer, the takeaway wouldn't be "All Giraffes Are Assholes", it would be "you're a fucking mouthbreather"

Why do I say such things? Simple...

Carey Price was 30 fucking years old coming off of a season where he posted a .900 sv%. What in the fuck would anyone be thinking throwing money and term at a goalie who was 30 and coming off that kind of a season?

Bob was 30 and coming off of a .913 sv% including a 3 yr, year over year decrease in his level of play. This shit isn't magic. Signing guys who are 30 to long term deals turns out really bad more often than not, regardless of position. Lots of money goalie deals work out just fine....just not obscenely stupid ones that were obscenely stupid from the onset.

Won't disagree with that, but will disagree that it is ever a great idea to sign any goalie to a contract with a term over 5 years. Only the very best should get that, and yes, at the proper age, and everyone else should get something shorter.

Don't you guys close deals by raping someone in Chicago? Can you guys get on to closing already?

No, not volunteering
