TML? More like FML, amirite? Yet Another Off Season Thread

One by one Shanny and co throwing front office guys overboard. Those seats are getting warmer. Another 1st round exit and I think they’re done.

It’s too bad we didnt snag Yzerman when he left Tampa. I’ve lost almost complete faith in this management group.

Wonder if this dude had a hand in the Mrazek signing.
My hunch says the nerd they fired, Cam Charron, advocated for Mrazek. All sorts of nerd stats liked Mrazek quite a bit and he has written about goalie nerd stats in the past.

reading way too much into them quickly fixing areas of weakness on their staff (special teams coaching was more the rage in the previous years)

As always, head coach means GM in trouble and GM means president in trouble. If you were asking team owners and presidents around the league which roster they would like to start with, the leafs are easily top 5 in their ranking. Like Shanny is not on a hot seat at all. When you look at teams completely rebuilding around when we did - we are in a much better place and this was one of the better teams last year (and prob at least the next two years) that we may see for another least another 20-30 years after Marner/Matthews is done with us (I’m not gonna bet on them resigning now cause I’m a leaf’s fan and assume the worst lol). Realistically we were the second best team in the league and played the best team in round 1 as I ranked the 16 playoff teams and when looking at the teams Tampa was the one team I did not want to play as only team I didn’t feel good about beating (can only speak for myself and how I felt before playoffs - but sure the board probs feels similar there was no one else to be scared about).

Probably performance based. We watched as Freddy slowly fall off the planet here before rebounding to near Vezina form for most of the season in Carolina, and as decent as Jack has been for us, he's played at his career averages here....just happened to get an opportunity. Mrazek sucked harder than ever as soon as he arrived here. We haven't seen any development from any of the carousel of minor league goalies we've brought into the organization.

We've been a goaltending wasteland for 3-4 years now.

The guy's been goalie coach for like 7yrs.

Yep. Not that this is necessarily on him, but:

League SV% rank

15/16 - 23rd
16/17 - 11th
17/18 - 5th
18/19 - 10th
19/20 - 21st
20/21 - 15th
21/22 - 22nd

That's his tenure here. That one blip in the top 5 was when McIlheney put up a .934 as our backup and Freddy was .918 over 66 games.

I did hear that there was some interest in him dating back to last year. But he got hurt and that was the end of that. So yeah this doesn't shock me. 3.125 for the final 2 years of his contract if the Sens retain 50%. Probably a better option than Mrazek at least. The bar is low, folks.

Turning to random people with connections to the Sault is a well-worn Dubas strategy at this point, so it wouldn’t surprise me.

I dunno, though. Murray’s been horrific for three full seasons now. And like Mrazek, he’s also injury prone.

It's similar to the John Gibson gamble I guess other than Gibby having more term left. Except Gibson was a top 3 goalie in the NHL at one point and isn't as injury prone, but he didn't play for the Soo. In either case there would have to be max retention of course. And if Murray was a UFA does he get 3.125 for 2 years? He probably does tbh. The options out there aren't exactly too appetizing. Maybe Dubas feels the need to find a guy who has won before. And the Soo thing is always a bonus!
