TML? More like FML, amirite? Yet Another Off Season Thread

Great players are allowed to be analyzed where their strengths and weaknesses are discussed, no? Or does this not apply to Rielly and Tavares?
Of course it does. But with these two guys, there's waaaaay too much negativity attached to a top pair dman who (I believe is just fine defensively) is a transition and offensive stud, and a PPG center. There's never really anything great said about them, other than in the particular moment of greatness where they get appreciated and then quickly forgotten again.

I think most of us appreciate how good Mo is offensively. One of the best in the league and it's brought up often. How often can we repeat that without it becoming a giant boring circle jerk though?

I think you're being disingenuous when you say he's great defensively though. That's just a straight up lie. It's like saying Matthews has great hair

Well, I said he's just fine defensively, not great. He makes some silly turnovers when he tries to head up the ice on offense, but in his own zone, I don't see this horrific D nightmare you guys seem to see. I see him engaged, strong on the puck, aggressive, etc.

The one defensive complaint I have on him is how he plays 2 on 1s though. He never gets down on the ice to prevent the pass. It's the craziest thing ever. It's like he has some religious objection to it or something.

He got one more point than that no good washed up no offense Muzz.
In a whole 7 games. And still Rielly had twice as many, but you're not counting PP time. Fair enough. But there's a reason why Rielly plays on the PP and Muzz doesn't. Muzz took two screened slapshots from the point. That was his offensive contribution.

I hope you're not seriously comparing these two guys offensively at this stage in their respective careers. If you are, you might want to take a peek at the regular season stats that preceded the 7 game sample you've fallen in love with?

Also, for the record since you guys like to make up stuff, I haven't said Muzz provides no offense. But the guy can't skate and doesn't spend much time in the o-zone. For this team, and frankly in this league the way things have developed, you have to be fast and quick in everything you do. Slow, lumbering old guys are not built for the two-way game anymore. That's my concern. Lilly and Sandin can skate it out with the best of them, make great passes in transition. That's not Muzz's game anymore - if he tries, it looks like that infamous Ritchie end to end rush.

Anyway, I was the first to praise Muzz in the TB series. The very first. And still say he was very good for us. But the season is over and now we're in roster shaping mode, and the risk/return on the guy is not good. And there's NO reason to take the risk when we have Gio, Lilly and Sandin, without enough spots for all of them! Trade the old slow risky guy AND get really good new players!

You guys are acting like I'm saying dump Muzz in the trash can behind the ACC and forget we ever knew him. No, trade him for a really nice return and for heaven fucking sake, recognize that we keep losing because of a poopy offense when things get down to the wire, not because our D breaks down. And the D isn't all about Muzz. We got 6 really good guys who can play.

According to Capfriendly he has a NTC the first 3 season of his contract and a modified NTC in the last yr which kicks next yr.
Ah, okay, I just hovered over it on the main page. Not sure why it wouldn't say that instead of NTC in '23.

In any event, I doubt the NTC is a problem if they're trading him to some other contender, which is the only type of team that would trade for him.

I think almost every significant $ player we've shipped out has had one.

Definitely agree players will be reluctant to waive and it makes it harder to get value though.
Eh, I think if all parties are willing, we'll get proper value.

We don't have to trade him if we don't, and the other team won't get him, which is not what they want obviously.
